Help with Logitech Optical Mouse -- the light's not on?

My father-in-law sent me an older USB optical mouse made by Logitech. I plugged it into a USB port and received a message from windows that new hardware was installed and working properly. The light on the mouse never came on, so I tried a different USB port and downloaded the driver. The buttons work, but still no light. Do the lights burn out or is it just busted?

Update:

It's a corded mouse, so no batteries

Update 2:

Moving the mouse does not move the cursor, but if I right click on the desktop, the menu pops up. So I know that the buttons work and it's communicating with my computer. It probably is a problem with the laser/LED.

All the answers you had up until this point thought you had a cordless mouse and that you needed to change the batteries.

If you are talking about the light/laser on the bottom of the mouse. It is possible that the laser went out. These things aren't that expensive, but would cost way too much to have repaired. If you like the idea of having an optical mouse then you would be best to replace it with a new one.

If this is instantaneous, make particular no man or woman is using "noisy" electric powered equipment on the time. at the same time as i take advantage of my paper shredder, i visit't use my mouse effectively. The shredder motor isn't shielded properly and interferes with the radio frequencies the mouse makes use of.

Chances are the LED may be broken..

try pluggingteh mouse into anotehr PC if possible.. Also make sure the USB port actually works..Try something else in it..

LED's dont break often at all.. so as i said, test something else inteh port first to make sure its getting power.

However if windows detected it, then its probably had it..

Take it back, if they moan about it being your fault,, ask them to plug it in there! to test..

I've only had mine for a few months, so I'm not sure about older ones, but my Logitech mouse has batteries in it. It is wireless though, is yours? If it is then they are in the part where your palm rests. If not then I don't know and I'm sorry I wasted your time.

    Good luck anyway!
