What is a good program for converting .avi files and burning them to DVD so they will play in US DVD players?
I have tried it with Nero, but it won't let me add my .avi files to the project, even though it says .avi is a supported format!

yes, it is because you don't have the codec of the video, download it, from
www.Divx.com
BUT, there is always a solve, download : TMPGEnc

I haven't used this vesion yet, because I download movies then delete them, coz there's no point of seeing a movie more than once "in my point of view" but I know how other vesions work, all you have to do, is adding the vedio, choose a template and the US vedio syste, is NTSC
then if there was an option with "Vedio + Audio" Click that, and start converting, then the vedio size will be reduced AND burned on your DVD
