after getting ear pierced, do you twist it often or not?

I ask because mine is taking forever to heal, and when I leave it alone (no twisting) it feels real good, but when I twist it, it's like taking a step back in the healing process. I don't want it to fuse to my ear, what's the best method?

Keep twisting it!! Otherwise it'll stick to the skin from the hole oozing liquid and hurt a lot when you finally do twist it. There's a product called Ear Care, it's an antiseptic made to keep fresh piercings clean. Most Marts have it. I still use it and mine have been pierced for 10 years.

A lot of people use alcohol or peroxide for cleaning, but it isn't advised because it actually destroys the tissue around the wound/piercing.

If nothing else use warm water and mild soap and thorough rinsing to keep it clean.

  • Yeah, you've got to turn it. The reason it hurts when you turn it after leaving it alone for a few days is because all the plasma that leaks out of the open wound builds up around the jewelry and turns "crusty". Then, when you turn it, the sharp crusty plasma breaks open the healing that has already taken place.

By the way, don't clean ANY piercing with alcohol. Alcohol dries up your skin and slows down the healing process. Use Bactine or ask your piercer what you should use to clean it.

Use rubbing alcohol religiously and twist the earring. It sounds like the piercing itself might need to be cleansed more often. You could also be allergic to the earring itself-I can only wear 18 ct gold.

You're suppose to put alcohol or some kind of cleanser around the earring, use a q-tip and dab front and back...turn it several times a day. It seems like they do tend to "grow into your ear" when you first get them pierced and the first time you do them every day, it does feel uncomfortable.... but just be patient and do it several times a day and it should be ok.

when i had mine pierced, that's what i was told to do by the professional who did it. twist it once a day or so. make sure your cleaning the area with peroxide or ear cleaning solution to prevent infection, because that will make it take longer to heal. mine took about 6 weeks or so to heal. and alot longer than that to finish thoroughly.
