    Congratulations on your moving house.

    When I move apartment/house/whatever I make a plan.

I draw three charts: one chart for the months coming up (if I know that far ahead); second chart for the weeks nearer the move; third chart for the two weeks prior to the move plus the week following the move.

Then list your tasks in the appropriate chart. Make the charts working aids - amend them as necessary.

Type of tasks to think about are:

    - sort stuff to donate, sell, trash

    - garage sale of all your unwanted stuff (less to pack/unpack and all extra money helps)

    - movers or friends/vehicles to DIY

    - financial

    - schools

    - medical, dental

    - gas, electricity, oil, phones, water, sewer

    - inform everyone of your change of address. I make a list of everyone showing who, date I contacted them, date they responded at my new address. That way I know if someone hasn't got the message.

    - schedule time to say goodbye to local friends and neighbors.

    - legal things like telling the driver's license and registration people.

    - defrosting the freezer and emptying the fridge.

    - what you will do with pets during the move.

    - what to do with small children during the move.

    - involve children as much as their capabilities allow so they are positive about the move.

    - have your children's friends over for a farewell session if you're moving far.

There are many more things to do, as you know.

With the chart system I can feel better if the whole move is broken down into manageable tasks. When I've done a task I feel good, even though I know there are many other things to do.

Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Just relax and enjoy it. Some day you'll be stuck in the same house the rest of your life and you'll look back and wish you could move again.
