Purchasing new fish tank 150 gallons ..?
I am considering purchasing a 150 gallon fishtank set-up from Pet-co .. their name brand. The tank and extras cost about $400.00 the wooden stand costs an additional $400.00. I currently have a 55 gallon tank. Say that the tank weighs approx. 1800 pounds when fully set-up .. couldn't it do damage to the wood floor .. could the weight be too much and warp the wood under it .. or crash through ? . It is a hard wood floor. What do you think of a 150 gallon fish tank .. if you have one that size .. how do you have it set up ? What special equipment, if any will I need to keep it running correctly ? Thank you for any information you can share with me .. or websites to send me to. :)

Here is a great website that you can do some research on. They have a discussion forum that you can ask questions on and most of the people are pretty knowledgeable.

It mainly depends on what type of foundation you have. If it is a cement foundation you will be fine. If it's not, you could be in trouble. A 150 gallon is pretty much the same as the 55, just bigger. Make sure you have plenty of filtration for the bigger size tank. Make sure you do water changes of %25 at least once a month but no more than every two weeks. If you are going to do salt water you will need to keep a really good eye and test your water often. Especially the salinity levels. Good luck. And be care full Pet co and pet smart don't always have highly trained people in the fish department. I would go to a pet store that isn't a chain store to get fish advise. I have fish tanks myself and use to manage a pet store for a few years. Fish are awesome

150 gallons of water weigh about 1250 lbs., but the pressure would be located over about 3' by 2', so it could cause a problem, especially if it's an old house.
Check the sub-floor and see if there is a main truss or two running under the area you're putting the tank. If there is, you'll probably be OK. If there is only a standard sub-floor support for the wood flooring, it might be problematic.

You could test out your floor with a few of your friends if you wanted. Get them to stand in a tight group. Maybe have them jump a little. If there is actual bending of boards going on, that would tell you there's a problem. How many friends of course depends on how big your friends are. If you really don't trust your floor, you might want to invite some not so good friends over for this experiment.

I think it is a great size especially for salt water, but if you go that route, you will need other supplies as well. No matter what you choose, you will offer any visitor good entertainment and a break-the-ice conversation. I prefer of course the salt water. The live rock itself brings life almost daily esp after 3 months. It is amazing. you will see things you have never seen or thought existed. SW tanks thanks to technology have come a long way. Goooooo SW OK let us know what specific gravity your favoring (salt or fresh) bad humor heh

it might count fullyyt on the species in question, as properly as your point of care dedication. A one hundred fifty is a huge, sparkling canvas with thousands - no hundreds - no limitless ideas obtainable to you, so why no longer head on your close by fish shop and see what strikes your fancy. As according to the goldfish greater specifically, in case you caught with the flamboyant types, 3 to 5 at person length. human beings say I over estimate on goldfish minimums. which could be authentic, yet goldfish are great turning out to be, comprehensive bodied animals that produce a hefty quantity of organic and organic wastes (*the two good and liquid) and eat a multitude of dissolved oxygen. protecting, cooler temperature water will boost the optimum saturation point of DO, yet there remains the factor of wastes to think of approximately. in case you opt for to make certain their ultimate length, colour, and conformation, persist with conservative stocking with goldfish, or leaving them to passable sized ponds. quite a few koi and goldfish farms easily improve their fish out in downright massive ponds and use sparing stocking to truly see recommendations-blowing high quality animals coming in on the tip of the season (*there replaced into, specifically, a piece of writing in TFH approximately 4 or 5 years back featuring the Sakai relatives koi farm and their use of earth ponds for this comparable technique).
