democracy or no democracy?
we have democracy in the West , but we also have gun crime , sex crime , drug crime , alcohol problems, racial hatred and discriminations of all sorts.
In the Muslim worlds , they might not have democracy , but also do not have problems like gun crime , sex crime , drug crimes like we have in the West, certainly no alcohol problems until they get occupied by foreign powers.
If Bush and Blair think it is good for Muslim countries to have democracy and we will give them that whether or not they like it or not , like what we are doing now in Iraq, then you now turn the table around and assume the Muslim worlds want to help us to get rid of our drink ( alcohol ) problems by converting all of us into Muslims ,mind you Muslims world never have alcohol problems because Muslims are told and taught not to have anything to do with alcohol.Would you like them to come here with big tanks and missiles to solve our alcohol problems ?
You just cannot force people to follow your will.

It is beter to have free will amd be able to chose what you want to do than it is to be ruled by a religion that tells you what and when to do somthing.

If you consider, as I do, that democracy implies a social equality; then the USA is not an absolute democracy - it just selects elements of democracy that enable the rich to maintain their power base. But then again, the UK is worse - having a monarchy and an aristocratic class with privileges. We also suffer from a system that enables the rich to exert influence in matters of government.

Fact,
Our form of government is a representative republic, not a democracy.
I would prefer to have the problem of choice and freedom over no choice and no freedom any day of the week. While muslim women have not been allowed to vote until now in Iraq, I often wonder is women shouldn't vote.

"Democracy is the best of worse evils". It isnt perfect but it is the best we have at the mo.
Read a book called "Plato's Republic". Plato was a political philosopher. His idea was that the best form of government is by one perfect leader who is selected or appointed by the intellectual elite not elected by the stupid masses. He outlined a utopian political system. But as imperfect humans we'll never achieve this on earth. Its only really possible in heaven.
I agree with other posters re: muslims are hypocrittes who have loads of problems in their countries - they just hide them better from media/masses/other countries. Democracy is more open and holds its hands up and admits to its shortcomings.

'You just cannot force people to follow your will'
So what are/were the Taliban & Al quieda trying to do?
Deocracy, at least we can get rid of those who abuse their power by free elections. You don't see many of those in the Muslim world.
