Should we require all political candidates to pass a qualifications test?

I think it would be a good idea for all candidates for national office to first be certified by passing exams in American History and the Constitution. Right now we elect any idiot who was a real estate broker or insurance salesman or bug killer, and when they get to Washington they don't know what they're doing and even propose clearly unconstitutional measures. Requiring pre-qualification woould get us a better calibre of public servant.

Update:

Oh, really nice, Davey. By the way, not only do I have a Political Science degree from a major American university, but I also made it into MENSA. So nyaah! I guess you right-wingers desperately need to keep morons in the political process.

You obviously don't understand the meaning of a Democracy. Not surprising you are a Liberal. The point is we as a nation vote. If we want an idiot in power we will vote that way.

Wow, that would be nice-then maybe some funding could be diverted back to education. However it also defeats the electoral concept of voting to be represented by your peers and people you respect. The law was designed so we would all participate in our government. By testing we eliminate the "common man" an important factor in keeping our government challenged and hopefully injecting fresh ideas so it will not become stale. Besides how would comics make a living if politicians were as smart as them. Lol.

Wow, I'll vote for you. A great idea. I'll never get over Sanchez and several others who never voted before being elected to Congress. This only happens because the party chooses them, pays for their campaign and demands their loyalty for a job handed to them without qualifications.

It really is a great idea and the only way we can insure our Constitution is upheld.

Sounds like you need to read up on the constitution yourself, because what you are proposing is clearly unconstitutional itself. As it is, only the rich and elite get elected. We do we need to limit it anymore?

I think a test would be awesome. not just American history but what about world and political history. that way we can tell if they at least know the basics like who George Washington was and where Moscow is. Because like people always say "history is doomed to repeat itself"

Yes! What a great idea! They should all have a lie-detector test while they are doing it...Right On!

Well instead of denying people the right to run.. why don't voters do a better job of electing the right people..

Voters don't know who the hell the vote for. maybe they should do a little research before going to the booth.

Yes and pass a lie dector test also.

OH, HERE WE GO. THE ARCH LIBERAL WITH AN IQ EQUIVALENT TO ROOM TEMPERATURE NOW WANTS TO GO AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION AND NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO RUN FOR OFFICE UNLESS THEY PASS A TEST.

WHAT COMES NEXT, MAKING PEOPLE TAKE A TEST BEFORE THEY VOTE? I THOUGHT YOU PINHEADS WERE EVEN AGAINST MAKING PEOPLE SHOW ID BEFORE THEY VOTED. CAN NONE OF YOU MORONS MAKE UP YOUR MINDS WHETHER YOU WANT TO BE FASCISTS OR SANDINISTA?

I agree with you. The problem is that we certainly would be without candidates!
