Good restaurants in Maui?

My husband and I are going to Maui for a week in November and are looking for good restaurants. Preferably nothing chain-related, we want real local fare. Thanks!

ok, you want the real deals so here it goes. isana restaurant is the locals favorite for fresh sashimi and korean food, located in the kihei area($$). breakfast you could go to tasty crust in wailuku ($). you want really good food and willing to pay the price then i'd suggest disregarding your question and checking out mama's fish house in paia ($$-$$$). mexican, maui tacos in kihei, lahaina, and kahului ($). steaks, ruth chris's steakhouse in wailea ($$$). local plate lunches, da kitchen in kihei ($), and maui thai in kihei ($-$$). hope this helps you w/your cravings, aloha!

For good local fare, eat where the locals eat... There is a restaurant called "The Fish Market" in Paia (on the north shore) that is fantastic... it's the kind of place the locals bring their significant others on their birthday, but also pretty expensive... For local day to day food that is absolutely fantastic and around 9 or 10 bucks a plate, go to "Da Kitchen". The Kahula pork is fantastic and I've heard that everything else is good too. I think there are like 3 of them... One is in the town 5 miles south of Paia, there is another in S. Kihei Rd. in Kihei, and I don't remember where the other is, but I'm sure it won't be hard to look up.

I live on Maui, and on the west side in Kapalua is SANSEI, or the Pineapple Grill. They are excellent. In Kaanapali there is the Hula Grill which is right on the ocean at Whalers Village. On the other side of the Island, on the Kihei side, there is a SANSEI restaurant, or go to Wailea to the Grand Wailea Hotel. I don't go over there too much for dinner, I prefer Kapalua. Sansei is very local, but very good. You need reservations in advance like a day or two, if they are busy.

I was taken to a wonderful place for my birthday a year ago,,, I believe it was the Four Seasons.... Wolfgang Puck's restaurant. It was wonderful, but expensive.... We tried to plan meals so that we wouldnt miss something, but after all the reading in all the travel books, we were overwhelmed! It was more like a graduate level research project ! In the end, we just asked the locals where the best places to eat were. You'll have a great time regardless !!!

I think it depends on what part of Maui you are on, my husband and I honeymooned in Lahaina, we love Moose McGillicudy's, Cheeseburgers in Paradise, Bubba Gumps, Kimos, Mama's Fish House...it's all good. They have a Hard Rock Cafe but we never ate there because we wanted more local flavor also. Have fun! Cheeseburgers in Paradise also serve the best drinks.
