What makes a cult?

Blind faith, nothing more or less.

Look, if God created us, he created us with a mind, reason, logic. Cults are weak people who believe without reason. They are to be feared, very feared.

A cult is a small group of people whose beliefs or practices are considered strange or unusual by the average person. (So saying any religion that is not your own is a cult is NOT accurate)

Naturally the word "cult" has a vastly negative meaning attached to it in this day and ago because of what some cults have done. People believe all cults to be involved in religious brainwashing and can potentially be dangerous.

How do you know your own religion isn't a cult? Well, look at the definition above. Is your religion very small (i.e. only hundreds of members at the most)? Is your religion considered weird by most other people? Are other people scared of your religion? If the answer is yes to ALL of these questions, then you probably got a cult on your hands.

I know that where I go is not a cult because I checked it out using the criteria of people like these and some other ones as well.

I cannot see what people hope to accomplish in trying to get posts deleted. it's called free speach and shows how small someone is to try ot get yours or anyone post deleted unless it is vuglar in from,. If it offends anyone so be it. that is the price we all pay for freedom. If sopmethiong is deleted everytime some didn't agree with it all posts would be deleted

Some people also include in the definition that cults can do more harm than good psychologically as well as spiritually. At at times physically, as in the followers of Jim Jones, David Koresh and Marshall Applewhite (Heaven's Gate).

All religions are a form of cult.

The ones that are instead called religions are so treated because through intimidation (social or literal) they've frightened everyone else too much to openly identify them as cults. That's a word the more popular cults reserve for their competitors.

This does not mean all cults are religions.

I would say a cult is any group that claims to be the only way to eternal life.
