Help! My browsers suddenly crash, causing Internet Explorer and Firefox to close. What could be the problem?

This problem has recently started. Every once in a while, if I have Firefox and IE open at the same time, and if I click my mouse, all the pages suddenly close, and the start menu pops up over and over. The log off/turn off/ restart/screen will then appear. Anyone know what could be the problem?

I could be wrong, but to me it sounds like you have a virus. Try this excellent online virus scanner to see if it will fix it.

Stop using IE7 because it is 100% unpatched and is dangerous to use.

You should also check for spyware.

Download the following (if you don’t have them already) and then UPDATE them. After they are updated, scan with all these programs and then trash what ever they find.

    Windows Defender

    Spybot

    Superantispyware

    Ad-Aware

    All the programs are free

    Good luck

  • IE and Firefox are seperate programs, there for they will not cause each other to crash. I sounds like you might have some sort of mal ware on your computer. You most probably have a virus. I would download a free anti virus program and scan. Then, when you have an idea of what you are dealing with, I would shop around and find a good anti-virus program. I will however warn against windows defender. It is by far one of the least effective anti virus programs out there. Norton is a good and effective one.

Another solution, is to use the backup function on your computer, if this is a new problem. It will erase all files up until 5 days previoius ( not sure on the time frame, sorry). That can be helpful if you just started to notice the problem.

Worst case scenario, you have a couple viruses, loads of spyware, mal ware, adware, etc. Save what you want off of your computer and wipe it.

Thats pretty much what they did for mine at the computer shop and I had to pay 350 for it.

Theres only one thing i can think of that even comes close. Someone "accidentally" put a new yahoo toolbar update thing on yahoos toolbar. It was not yahoo though. It is a VIRUS that acts like a update and when you update it it lets your Internet explorer come up for a few seconds then it shuts it down. I don't know how to get rid of it for you. Try googleing it.

You might be infected with adware and spyware.

Get Ad Aware SE from http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html and

Spybot Search And Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ or from http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000...

And do complete scans as soon as possible

Remove Firefox from your computer (add/remove programs), then reinstall IE
