With the on/off switch for the food waste disposer in the "OFF" position, go to your electrical system distribution panel and determine if the circuit breaker or fuse for the disposer circuit is tripped or blown. If so, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Now, go back to the disposer and look at the underside of the unit.

Most modern disposers will have an Allen wrench fitting (a hexagonal recessed fitting) in the center of the bottom of the unit. If yours has this feature, look for the tool which fits this

fitting (furnished with the disposer) and use it to turn the inner workings of the unit in both directions. If you no longer have the manufacturer's tool, you can purchase one at your local hardware or home improvement store or an appropriate size Allen wrench will do.

If your disposer is not equipped with the fitting described above, a 2 - 3 foot piece of wood broom handle or similar material can be inserted into the disposer from the drain opening and used to try to turn the plate in the bottom of the unit in the opposite direction in which it normally turns.

If either of these methods frees up the disposer, use a flashlight to examine the interior of the disposer for any foreign materials that may have caused the unit to jam in the first place. If you find any foreign materials in the unit, remove them. Now, press the reset button, turn on the cold water and allow it or run for half a minute, and then turn on the disposer.

If none of these does you any good, either call a plumber or replace the unit.

You may need to remove the disposal so you can clean it out. It sounds like something may have gotten wedged in there. Make sure the power switch is off! You don't want to pull back a stump instead of your fingers. Ask someone to help if you feel uncomfortable doing this. The disposal has a ring on it under the sink that twists off. They're usually on pretty tight. You might try the breaker first. Disposals are supposed to be on their own circuit, alot aren't. Just be careful. Good luck

you have 2 issues. A plugged line and a broken rubbish disposal. Unplug the rubbish disposal below the sink. Now ensure you could freely flow the tooth on the rubbish disposal. it won't flow if something is jammed in there, removing the rubber thingy interior the drain helps to be certain greater useful. i think of on the disposal itself there's a re-set button, you could press this and plug it back in and see what occurs. it could have burned up after being jammed, wherein case you want a sparkling one. installation one isn't actual difficult, yet nonetheless a project. If the dishwasher won't drain and the rubbish disposa component won't the two you have a clog someplace. Do you have a sparkling-out drain? it would be exterior close to the kitchen exterior partitions . it would be a three or 4 ": pipe with a cap on it and a sq. component to place a wrench on it. turn it counter clockwise and do away with it. notice that it may gush regardless of is in there out. If the water is status in there you're able to desire to place a snake down there and relax the clog. If this sparkling-out has no longer something in it then your clog is someplace between the disposal, the dishwasher and the cleanout. you additionally can attempt and placed the snake interior the already draining component i'm hoping this helps.

on the bottom of the disposal in the center there is a place for an Allen stock wrench. stick the wrench in and turn a few times this should free it up then hit the reset button again and give it a try. most disposals come with the correct wrench.

Sounds to me like it is jammed...turn off the power to it and try to rotate it by hand, this may dislodge whatever is jamming it. It may also be the electircal motor brushes have worn out in the electric motor if it is an older disposal unit.

did you check the inside of the disposal to insure there isn"t something stopping the blades from turning?
