I would like nothing more than to be able to understand Japanese. Can you help me?
I come from America, and I have studied French to a fair extent. However, I do not want to be limited to languages with a Latin alphabet. At the same time, I would like to learn a language that is still practical and not Communist (no offense to les chinois.) Would somebody like to help me find a way to learn it? I don't have space to take such a class in my schedule, or I would. Thanks!

i have been learning Japanese for about 4 years and i found that the best way to learn the language was to start by learning the basics like you would anything else, by writing and reading. there are a small number of textbooks available, but phrase boOKs are also ok. then once you learn the basics then the best way to improve is to practice speaking the language. or you could always try tapes.( not recommended as you don't learn to read or write)
