WHAT ever happened to LT W CALLEY?

After being found guilty, imprisoned then pardoned by Richard Nixon and in hindsight was it a "kangaroo" Court?

Lt. Calley wasn't pardoned by President Nixon. Nixon commuted his sentence to "time served." He was released from prison in 1974. He is currently living in Georgia, where he manages his father-in-law's Jewelry store.

Oh sure. Lt. Calley was shafted. I want to make this perfectly clear though that the murder of civillians is criminal and a war crime. The problem with Calley's situation is no doubt one that occurred their and in every war/conflict before and after. The press in the field was a relatively new thing then. The war was brought to your living room. The press caught wind of the "kill anything that moves in the village" order and went to Mai Lai (spelling?) and hence the result. Naturally the upper echelon wasn't going to take the heat for giving that order and it trickled down all the way to Calley.

As a sidenote...watch the movie "Breaker Morant". Very similar circumstances except this dealt with a British order to shoot all Boer prisoners on the Veldt.
