The pros......you are your own boss and can appreciate your own work.....you can dictate how much money you make by how much work you do....

The cons......homeowners are extremely hard to work for and can be hard to collect money from if they don't like anything you did.

Additional thoughts: I would make sure you know your craft before you start and have the proper insurance and license in place, as well as being bonded.....that is if you want to work for good money.......

Good luck ! Be happy! Go for it on the side for awhile and see what you think of it.

no matter what you do you will always be working for some body else so bite the bullet and get a grip. Now for the handy man theme you must keep in mind it takes money to make money and so if your starting your own bussiness then you need to bank on the fact that they generally never make a profit the first year or even two. You lucky if ya break even

The income is not steady. A lot of people won't hire a person without a contractors license. People complain about your work and bounce checks. Don't quit your day job. put an add in the local newspaper and try it on a part time basis.

after 15 years self employed I still work for other people.sometimes it can get to you,be sure that you want it before you go.be prepared to be always on call.the reward for me is the challenge of the work and pride in putting out a good finished product.have an established client base and reputation before ''putting all your eggs in one basket''.plan on 30 day turn around on your money.i personally love it and hope to always do it.
