If you lived in another country wouldn't you WANT to learn their language?

Absolutely and without hesitation, yes.
I cannot see myself spending my life surrounded by people speaking a language that I don't understand. I would just feel so lonely!

It makes sense, but most Americans never do. They think that the rest of the world should speak English with them. I have American friends in some countries that have lived there for years and still can barely get a few statements out and still can't even do the numbers. Are we so lazy or are people afraid of trying? We seem to think the rest of of the world should learn English since we can't be bothered to learn their language.

Yes, at least a few phrases and words. If I remained in the country a long time, I would want to study the language more.

You should learn their language, you are living in their country. Its just rude to ask people in their own country to assimilate to you.
