Food for 7 year old birthday party?
Hi. I am having a Karaoke birthday party for my 7 year old. It has to be on a school night between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. Any ideas on what to serve for food and refreshments. I can always do pizza, but kind of wanted something different. I need something easy and fast as there isn't much time and the girls just need to be able to grab and go. The parents may also stay for the party so I kind of need something for them too. It's also dinnertime, so I guess I have to serve a "meal". Anyway, an early thanks to all those who answer.

You do not have to serve a meal.
Try all finger foods like chicken tenders, chicken wings, veggie platter, fruit platter, little smokies, small meatballs (one or more flavor), chips, a tray of deli meats & cheese with assorted breads. Wraps in assorted flavors.
And don't forget to check you grocers freezer for ready to heat appetizers.
You could also have a taco bar, or a pasta bar with assorted pastas & sauces.

How about something that you can do the prep for in advance, yet let each person choose what they want to eat? Maybe nachos...You could buy the chips and then have on the side, ground beef, warm cheese, perhaps refried beans, shredded lettuce, cute up tomatoes and black olives. Other options would be jalepanos, sour cream, etc. It would be easy to just put out the various bowls of toppings and give everyone a dish and some chips and let them top their own.

Hot dogs and/or sandwhiches or the easiest. I would think 7 year olds would like the hot dogs better and then just have a fun atmosphere with nuts and chips and drinks like at a bar since it will be a karaoke party. It sounds liek a lot of fun.

Pigs in a blanket. Buy cresent rolls in the can, buy shredded cheese and hot dogs, you can even smash potato chips to put in some as well as sauerkraut for the adults. Make a ton of these and adults and kids will be proud and pleased. Bake in the oven and you are done. Have fruit and veggies as well. Good luck.

For my son's birthday, I bought a whole bunch of little pizza shells and prepared a bunch of toppings. The kids came in groups of three to "create" their pizza so that the kitchen wasn't too crowded. It went over very well.....even with the adults!

it might be a bit messy but it'd be tons of fun for the kids...
make your own taco bar
make your own nacho bar
you could have lots of basic stuff out (meat, cheese, beans, tomatoes, sour cream, etc)
and the kids could build there own. the picky eaters could leave out what they don't want. since the parents are there they could help them.
throw in a side of rice and you'll be set.
you could also do sandwhiches (pb&j, turkey) with chips and pretzels.
when i was about that age we did make your own pizzas for a party and i still remember it almost 20 years later!

Set out a buffet style spread for salad making and for hamburgers and hot dogs. It's all simple and something for everyone.
Might want to also put out plain, unfrosted cupcakes and a variety of frostings and toppings, let the kids make their own. Same with the food. 7-12 year olds love to make their own eats.

Go to a pizza joint...no mess , or have each parent help with a pot luck type deal...since each kid/parent will be there, it'll be easier or subway, order burgers, make meatballs, salad and cake and ice cream....
ie: frozen meatballs, chili sauce (it's not hot) and cover and simmer for a couple of hours..suppose to put brandi in it, the alcohol burns off...it's great and easy.

Do a tray of finger foods (good for kids and adults): Perdue chicken nuggets, frozen "fast fries", pigs in a blanket. Chips and pretzels. Cake and you're done!!!
Have fun!

hot dogs and chips or hamburgers and chips are easiest. Pizza would still be a good idea since it is dinnertime.
