short of breath and very fatigued?

Doc says it is not asthma. I sometimes hear a whistling noise when I inhale not on the exhale. X-ray looked shady (infection?) with a little scarring but I am not coughing anything up. A CT scan revealed inflamation. Broncoscopy came back with no TB, cancer, scaroidosis. Waiting on cultures. My doctors (immunologist, pulmonologist) can't offer much help. Meanwhile I am short of breath all the time. Albuterol helps and I was hitting it 2-3 x a day. About 3 days ago I was put on Spiriva and it seems to be helping some as I use the Albuterol maybe once a day now. I had an Ultrasound done on my heart about 4 years ago and every thing checked out fine. The extreme fatigue and current SOB symptoms have been really bothering me for about 8 weeks now. Where do I go from here? I have a life I would like to get back to.

This is very interesting. It seems all your obvious causes of shortness of breath are being investigated. Have you had a pulmonary function test done, where you breathe into a tube like a peak flow meter to measure your lung capacity? Are you low on vitamin B12? Have your bloods been checked?Do you think you may be stressed in any area of your life that may be manifesting itself as SOB?. The fatigue you mention could be a sign of anaemia, and could also cause shortness of breath. Keep hounding the docs for more tests; this is no way to have to live, you poor thing.

  • We are not doctors and have no way to exam you or test you. If I were you, I would see another specialist and get a second opinion, or go back to see your doctor and be more firm with him/her that doing nothing is not acceptable and that you want an answer and or treatment.
