I found it quite odd when Saddam's death sentence was issued 2 days before the elections... my friend pointed it out

I am just concern about the future repercusssions on other loonies like Saddam. What kind of message does this send to Kim Jong ll or the Iranian President? Do you think they will be scared or knowing that they will be killed anyways, they will fight to the death. Kim Jong ll knows that he will be put to death if capture, he probably would launch all the nukes North Korea has before giving up, ditto for the Iranian government. When you thinkg about that, you may realize there is not much to celebrate.

Some of the answers here are UNBELIEVABLY naive! Of course its not a coincidence. The "Iraqi" government are NOT independant - on the contrary, they are a puppet regime with the US government clearly pulling the strings. This sentence is clearly timed to coincide with the elections to keep up this ridiculous myth that the US is at all succeeding in Iraq. I'm really shocked that so many US citizens can't see whats going on. Very scary.

It been on the news a long time ago that Nov. 10th was the expected date. It had been delayed at least once already. It's less odd than the announcement on Foley.

I think there was a MSN video saying that this will affect the elections. Personally i don't see how it will affect them. Killing Saddam is probably something that both parties are looking forward to.

well a 'US sponsered court' (as the press makes very clear) is more than likely to add some positive spin for the president. catching saddam being the ONLY success he has had in the - how many years he has been in office? i think even one day is too long.

Its a ruse i tell you. Coincidence it is not. I thought the world might like to know that they will hang one of my faithful body guards, while I sip champagne and watch it on TV at one of Bushes mansions...

The fact that his trial was a joke should embarass americans more than make them proud. The repulbicans don't even seem to care that the trial seemed unfair and rediculous.

Death is a small price for him to pay. Regarding the elections, we had no control over his trail.

Good point but who will sign the death warrant? Who ever does that will be signing their own death warrant. Also, do you really think they will let the beast die when he is such a good bargaining tool?
