I have a Playstation 2 Multitap and it doesn't fit in the proper slot. It has a little groove that gets in the way of plugging it into the PS2. Why is this, and what can I do about it? IF I SAND DOWN THE GROOVE, AND GET IT TO FIT, WILL IT WORK PROPERLY?

If you got the big PS2 then you might have gotten the Slim PS2 mutitab. Or you have a slim PS2 with a big PS2 multitab. The point is the two are incompatible. You may want to take it to a used game store and trade it in for one the is made for your console.

It seems like you purchased the slim ps2 multitap. The multitap designed for the slim ps2 will not fit in the original one.
Don't sand it down, take it back and get the proper one.
