HELP!!! I'm out of butter for dinner tonight....?
What would be a good substitute for my boxed organic mac n' cheese?
Cream it is since I have it on hand. Although I bet bacon grease would be really yummy.
For all those smart *** answers - I would normally make my homemade mac n' cheese with 7 types of cheese but I have been ill lately and am doing good today to make dinner at all.

Try heavy whipping cream (pre-whipped) or cottage cheese whey.

I don't know if I've ever heard of "boxed" organic mac & cheese! I would just make it without the butter. I am sure it calls for a little milk. I wouldn't substitute anything else, you could really ruin it. I've made it without the butter before, it was just a little loose.

I don't add the butter. Just milk and the cheese packet. It comes out alright. It also says in most boxes that if you want to cut the fat out, you can omit the butter.

eww. why not just homemade stuff???? and you don't really have to use butter in the boxed stuff. my kids don't. just add milk and the powdered cheese. you should be good to go with that. and would it still be organic after adding butter?

lard, olive oil, milk??? Throw some chili in it instead of the chesse mix.
Chili mac
or put some ground beef and salsa in it without the cheese mix..

A little bit of milk and maybe a tablespoon of cooking oil ought to do the trick.

BOXED organic?....you've got to be kiddin' me. What's the point?
Anyway, try a little light olive or canola oil (just a little), extra milk (assuming original recipe calls for it, if not add it) & add a little sea salt & pepper.
