Christmas Gift Exchange ideas?
My family has grown so much that we have decided to do gift exchange and draw names but the problem is that even though it is a large family we only have three families invovled. When we got to thinking about drawing names we realized that 9 out of 10 times we are going to draw our families name (like I draw my brothers name) and we don't want that to happen. It is my two grandparents, (2) my brother and family (3) my parents and sister (3) me and my husband (2) my aunt and her family (5) so there is 15 of us. Can anybody help us decide this? My mom had said something about the white elephant game but she said there are two many different ages. We don't want to do the chinese auction either. If you have any ideas that would be great. Thanks.

I would suggest using www.elfster.com it's a free online tool that you can use for gift exchanges. On it you can indicate which individuals shouldn't draw each other and then it will determine who's buying for whom. The only drawback is - you have to enter an email address for each person. (I would just recommend using your own email for all the people and just communicating the drawing results to everyone yourself). (if you do enter in all the emails of people you can keep the matches a secret too).

One solution could be to put all the names in a hat have each draw a name if they get an immediate family member such as a child or sibling just put it back and draw again. Our family on my husband's side is extremely large he has 8 siblings and between them there are 26 grandchildren and 3 great. The way we handle it is we all buy for our godchild and our children buy for their godparents. We still all get together on Christmas day and this way everyone gets to open gifts. Of course this will only work if most of the godparents are within the immediate family lol

We draw names, but I make up little slips with their name on it with space for 5-6 suggestions of something they want. They fill it out and put their name in to be drawn. You don't get everything, of course, but it makes shopping easier. Sometimes they want a gift certificate or something at particular store. We know exactly what they want. We set a $50 limit, but you can set any amount. We also put what we don't want such as I don't want candles or clothes.
We only have 6 people (3 couples) so the only rule is that you don't get yourself or your spouse. Sometime we have to draw a couple of times, but it still works.
We've done this for several years, and it works great.

Why not all of you get gifts that are not gender specific and then do a yankee swap? This way everyone gets a gift and it's not personal. Plus it's a fun way to celebrate. This is how we do it at our office parties, and although you are probably thinking we get BAD gifts, in actual fact we don't. I've gotten candles, exotic coffee's, tools, and even a shirt once. It will kill off about 4 hours of your day with 15 people plus have fun doing so.

put the names in a hat and keep pulling until people have who they can have. Make it at a family dinner and write down about 3 choice per person.

Heres what we do: everyone brings three gifts. Only one is real. The rest are fake. Its hillarious to see their faces when you tell them you left their box empty out of spite. Once I made my grandmother cry. Classic!
