Is it inevitable that one must feel hunger while on a calorie restricted diet?

A little less than year ago I did the Atkins diet and lost a LOT of weight. Then, I went through a seperation, a move to another state, and a car accident and needless to say, went off the diet. Now, I've gained almost 50 lbs. and I'm miserable. I do not want to do the low-carb thing again as it was somewhat unrealistic, but I am determined to lose the weight I have gained.

I just need to know, if when cutting fat and calories, will the hungry feeling eventually subside? Right now, I know that I am eating enough, and eating correctly, but because of the drastic change in eating habits, I'm still left feeling hungry. I've gained fifty pounds in ten months, that's pretty drastic folks! I ignore it, thinking it's going to get better...please help with some advice.

In reference to the last sentence, I ignore the feeling of hunger, not the fact that I'm fat...hehehe.

    I think hunger is just as much a mental thing as it is emotional and physical. I believe that you are doing all to keep your physical self from being hungry, it's the emotional you that is hungry. Try a new hobby or something to keep your mind busy. And, keep telling yourself that you are working for a better you, all the way around.

    Eat foods that will help you stay sated for a longer time, like carbohydrates and fiber. Whenever you're feeling hungry, drink water. It's the best way to fight the hunger. Also, when you think you're hungry, ask yourself: Am I hungry enough to eat an apple? If the answer is no, then you probably just have an appetite, not real hunger. If the answer is yes, eat an apple!

You can try to adopt a new hobby that will keep your hands busy. Also, don't shop when you're hungry, make a list before hand and stick to it, and don't by anything you eat compulsively. If you have something in your home that's tempting you, throw it away before you give in. Eventually, you will change your habits and hunger will subside, but you will probably still need to do something with your stress.

    The hungry feeling should eventually go away as your stomach strinks back to a normal size. Try drinking a lot of water and tea (it's an appetite supressant). Also, chew your water. It sends a signal to your brain that youre eating and you start to feel less hungry. It only works for about 30 min for me. Good luck with your weight loss!
