How do you clean a Korean Mink Blanket?
My mother-in-law, bought us a Korean Mink Blanket for our anniversary. I had it stored over the summer in an under-the-bed bag. I brought it out this weekend and it smells like my dog, that sleeps with us. My husband doesn't mind, but the smell drives me nuts at night and I can hardly fall asleep. Are you supposed to dry clean them or can you wash it in your own washer. It has very soft fur on it and I don't want to ruin it by throwing it in the wash. Help??? Any ideas?

It is recommended to use the same procedures one would use in cleaning any other fine washable:
using a mild soap and cold water,
sitting your machine on “gentle cycle”,
and “tumble dry”, using no heat!
Some people prefer professional dry cleaning.
Make sure the dry cleaner you select has experience in this kind of products.

If its the same style of blanket I used to have from when I was in the Navy, your best bet is to dryclean,, you CAN wash it in the Big machines at local Laundromat if you have one close by,, But the Dry Clean will be about $25.00 well mine was about 10 yrs ago, But if you go to wash in Laundromat,, stay with it or someone may run off with it,, OR You could try getting a bottle of Febreeze or throw it in your dryer with a few dryer sheets,, But I would take to cleaners and have it Dry Cleaned, I found it was most effective,
P.S. If you have it done, I would make sure dog slept in other room or outside,,, Damn if the dog should be able to undo what you just have done, or paid for

Do not wash it. it will ruin it. Take it to a Furrier that cleans fur. Next year put it in fur storage where it will be in climate control.
If you can't do that, hang it in the fresh air, out of the sun and let the smell air out. That may work. It could take a week or two. The other possibility is to get a refrigerator box of Arm and Hammer baking soda and seal it in a big plastic bag with the fur for a couple weeks. You could take it out a few times and refold so the whole fur gets aired.
You mother in law buys you nice things it sounds, like so don't spoil a good thing and complain to her or don't ruin it.

I have several of these blankets. I take mine to the local laundymat and wash it in the douple loader. It costs about $3 and you can even put it in the dryer with no problems..
P.S. I used Gain laundry detergent and the smell stays in your blanket for weeks..
