I quickly gained 30 pounds after being on an anti-depressant.?

The weight gain they cause sucks and you can't get it off! Has anyone successfully lost weight after going off of an SSRI medication? Did you have to diet or did your weight just start going back to normal?

Speak to your doctor and explain your concerns. She/he can try changing you to a different SSRI. There are some out that impact your dopamine levels in addition to serotonin. These types are reportedly more effective at keeping your metabolism normal.

Not all anti depressants cause weight gain.I take Paxil and it can cause you to lose weight not gain.Since yu are taking medication for this I assume you have a doctor,so give him a call or look on the net and look up the meds and see if that medication causes weight gain.If you were depressed and this mesication makes you feel a lot better, you might just be eating more because you are not so sad.Happy people Eat!

Pick up a woman's magazine. Look at the ads for drugs with large print. Turn the page and see the massive amount of tiny print on side effects. Drugs have side effects.

The great news is there is another way. See site below under depression for great stories of people with worse depression than you and how they cured them naturally. Also the home page has lots of tips on losing weight.

I've been on practically every antidepressant out there and I've never had a problem with gaining weight. However, I know that Depakote is notorious for causing weight gain. Thankfully, that was one of the few that I've never been on. Try talking to your Dr. and see if they can change your meds to something else.

I have been off them for 7 months and have only lost 20 of the 70 I put on, just be patient and try to eat healthy and work out as much as possible. Besides exercise gives you endorphins that make you happy.
