To categorize anyone into a group while focusing on potential criminals puts the majority of that focus on the group only being profiled, and that allows the innocent to be rounded up in that group, and for potential criminals of different groups or backgrounds to be ignored. Our justice system has voids, and with not enough police officers and a growing prison population, racial profiling does not ensure that these voids will be filled.

Also consider a suicide bomber...they have no profile. They can be 7 years old to 70 years old, male or female, white or black, educated or non educated, rich or poor. Racial profiling does not determine if a person being looked at is one who is determined to die in order to sacrifice themselves to their cause or beliefs.

I'm also sure no one considered racial profiling was a factor in finding Timothy McVeigh after the Oklahoma Bombing...

We will have racial profiling as long as some races produce more criminals per capita than others, and as long as some neighborhoods are mostly of a single race.

I agree that it's unfair on an individual basis, involving as it does, prejudice. But it's a useful tool for law enforcement so long as the above conditions are valid. Sorry.

i think that policemen need to go with their instincts. my mom says poorer neighborhoods tend to have more minorities, or a lot of times rich white people leave a neighborhood becuase they dont want to live near minorites. so it ends up that neighborhoods get that way, i dotn think its the policemens fualt if there is a lot of crime in an area were there happen to be a lot of minorites. and still they have to trust their instincts, it would be crazy for them to be told to pull over random old ladies just to be "fair". police have been doing their job a long time, im sure they dont want to pull over soemone for no reason, and if they were racist and that was the only reason they were pulling someone over, im sure they would let the person they pulled over know!
