The Catholic church took 400 years after Christ to evolve and 600 years to elect the first pope.

If you read the New Testament you find it differs very much from the first Century church. In the New Testament a Bishop, a Pastor and a Elder was the same office. Not three different offices but three words to describe the same position.

Jesus said to call no man Father and Catholic Priests are called Father.

In the eyes of those who do not consider Catholics Christian the Catholic church is the falling away and the apostasy foretold by Peter, Paul and other New Testament writers.

But another view to that is the Protestant churches are the apostasy of the apostasy and only those who believe what the New testament Christians believed and do what they did in the new Testament are the true Christians. .

I am not Christian anymore, but those are the things I have seen debated. You asked why some christians do not consider Catholics Christian and these are the reasons.

I wonder the same thing! The Catholic Church rocks! If there is only one Christian church, it's the Catholic Church! Jesus started it after all!

to the person above. Jesus did intend to start a church. Listen to this!

Actually, its hard to pinpoint the beginnings of the Catholic Church, but doesn't seem very similar to the first century Christians. These were willing to undergo persecution for their beliefs, they preached the gospel to the nations, they met in homes and gathering places, they separated themselves from the world by their actions and neutrality, and they had no central leader.

Even later, there were coptic Christians, eastern Orthodox, Arians, and others , many of whom the Roman Catholic church opposed.

The bible was kept in Latin and any that were printed in local tongues were burned and their translators hunted down.

This oppression lasted until the Reformation and the Council of Trent,

Catholics weren't the first Christians. THe first Christians were part of a group called THe Way. They met in houses and didn't have a heirarchy structure like the Catholic Church.

Catholics are sometimes not referred to as Christians because of their beliefs. They believe in praying to Mary and the saints, but Christians believe that talking to the dead is a form of necromancy. Catholics believe that Mary is their interecessor, but Christians believe that Jesus is their intercessor. Catholics believe that Mary went to heaven and didn't die. Christians believe that only 3 people went to heaven and didn't die--Enoch, Elijah, and Jesus.

Catholics believe that confessing to a priest works for forgivenss. Christians believe you can go straight to God for forgiveness, as long as you are truly repentant. Catholics call their priest father; Jesus said call no man father. Catholics believe that saying a few prayers is pentance for sin. Christians don't need pentance for sin because their repentace is enough. Catholics believe the Eucharist the wafer and wine are actually the body and blood of Jesus; Christians believe it is symbolic and the Catholic belief is cannabalistic. Catholics keep Jesus on the cross; Christians celebrate his resurrection.

Because the Lord Himself will destroy the Catholic Church during the great tribulation> See Revelations Ch.17 V.1-9 because they have perverted the simple Gospel of Christ and turned the truth of God into a lie. Jesus himself founded the first Church on himself and not on any man. Read again his conversation with Peter in the Bible where he calls Simon "Peter" which by interpretation means "Petros" or little pebble. The rock Jesus is referring to here is himself and not Peter. Jesus/God is refered to as "the rock" something like 48 times throughout the Bible. The "keys" given to Peter was the authority to preach the Gospel as the great commission was given to the Church and all who believe the Gospel will be saved and go to heaven whilst those who refuse will spend eternity in hell. Its that simple! The Catholic Church has turned this simple truth into some monstrous lie and have totally departed from the reality of the truth accordingly the Lord will settle the account during the tribulation as he holds them totally accountable for misleading countless millions who are in hell right now with no way out as there is no such place a purgatory mentioned any where in the Bible. Jesus made the truth abundantly clear in his conversation with Nicodemus in John Ch.3 Never mind what some Priest tells you, I would seriously suggest you get your nose into the word of God,the King James version is the best as it has 66 books as the Catholics added 2 books to their Bible which was a huge mistake as the Lord had warned mankind that if any one added to to the words of the prophesy of "this book" he would add unto them the plagues which are written in this book and one of those plagues is death.

Peter founded the Catholic church. The problem most other Christians have with thier Catholic brothers and sisters is the exagerated glorification of Mary and other saints to the point that Jesus is rarely given His just respect in the services. Catholics are Christians but in a cult-like way. There is no legitimate basis for praying to Mary or any other saint to make intersesion for people. Jesus specifically said we should pray DIRECTLY to the father THROUGH His name. He was very clear on that yet Catholics are stuck in intersesion mode. Pray to anyone but God to intersede for you. This alone is enough to make most Christians disown thier Catholic brethern.

Jesus began a Catholic church meaning universal. This universal church contains the body of Christ so to speak. Anybody who follows his teaching and believes he died for our sins belongs to the catholic or universal church. You are Roman Catholic, Christ did not start the Roman Catholic church. That is not to say you are not Christian. That my friend is between you and Jesus. Not you and everybody else. I pray you have a lovely day.

if catholicism is Christianity then why do you ask a priest for forgiveness when the Bible states it's clearly through Christ only. why do you pray for the dead? when the Bible says the dead know not anything. why do you pray to a statue(idol) for certain blessings? why do you consider mary to be the intercessor? when only priests from the old covenant were and Christ is in the new covenant.why do you crucify Christ every sunday and then cannibalize His flesh? why do you believe that the pope is Christ on earth? just to name a few, but there are many more reasons

    Why?

    1. The Apostles & followers of Christ were the first Christians, 4 centuries before the Roman Catholic Church.

    2. Catholics mix human tradition and paganism and call it Biblical. Examples being praying to the dead, purgatory and idols (statues of people) in their churches and confessing to men instead of Christ.

    3. Putting Mary as intercessor when in reality Christ interceeds for His followers.

well I am not Christian but if you ever read about early Christian history their were dozens of groups of Christians including the Catholic Church.

Also how could Jesus start a Church when he never intended to start a new religion?
