I have three: The Fly (the Jeff Goldblum version), Star Wars IV, and Planet of the Apes (the original).

The Fly I love for Goldblum's character and just the deep -pathos- involved in his situation. I love that he's so very passionate, I love that he's such an obliviously awkward fellow, and argh, I love how -tragic- the situation he's gotten himself into is - to bring about your own gruesome downfall simply because of such a human mistake, and to be so horribly aware of what's happening to you throughout the entire process ... it's just really compelling to me.

Star Wars IV (A New Hope) I love because of its story, Luke's endearing optimism, and them oh so cool light sabre scenes. Not to mention, I -still- get goosebumps every time Luke blows up the Death Star at the end ...

Planet of the Apes I enjoy because its concept is just so interesting. Sure, it looks dated now but I still love the "surprise" ending, and the interaction between the humans and them 'damn dirty apes' throughout always makes me want to watch ...

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is my favorite sci-fi movie, although it fits very loosely into the genre. I'm anticipating Star Wars: The Old Republic more than any game release ever!

The Entire Star Wars series, and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Star Wars because It's story is one of the most memorable and most brilliantly told stories ever. I am not emotional it's true.

2001 because the HAL 9000 and Star Child characters are still haunt my memories. Oh and also because the special effects are more convincing then most Sci-Fi movies today.

Lost in Space. I guess I enjoy it so much because it is about a family similar to my own (without the fancy spaceships though). Other than that, it has space travel and time travel, so that's really cool. Made after one of the best shows ever on television, the Lost in Space series. A creative solution to the already evident problem of pollution. Besides all that, it has Lacey Chabert in it. Anyway, thats my two cents ;)

A sleeper called The Quiet Earth-- an Australian movie about a scientist who is working on a machine that makes the someting happen to the sun that killed almost everyone on Earth except for people who were dying at that moment. I like it because it's funny and suspenseful, and different. No blatant monster, no hi-tech battle scenes.

    Equilibrium - Christian Bale

Great story, very different than the run of the mill. The Grammaton Clerics Gun Kata were very cool. Just a very unique story imho.
