Unless you are applying for credit, there wouldn't be a credit check. Some banks will check with Chex Systems, which shares with the bank is the person has misused an account in the pasts. Things such as monies owed to another institution will come up. Chex Systems does not make the final decision on wheter the account is opened or denied. The bank decides if they want to open that account or not.

i didnt have a credit check when I opened a checking account. I just said I wanted to open an account, showed two forms of ID and proof of address and gave them 250 in cash. It took 5 minutes.

I got a checking account with an out of state ID, electric bill (for proof of address) and $300 at Commerce Bank. I owed thousands in hospital and phone bills. No one checked my credit.
