Can anyone else see the parellel of the fall of the roman empire and the possibility of the fall of the americ

an empire? Some of the reasons of the roman empire falling:large Military Spending to defend its vast territories and ongoing wars, Urban decay in its largest cities, Inflation, Unemployment and Political Corruption..all of these intertwined and led to the fall of the roman empire..when you look at the reasons can they not be used in an argument for the american 'empire' collapsing soon?

Yes. But the most significant factors in the possible collapse of the USA are APATHY and BLIND PATRIOTISM.

When the U.S. is actually threatened by it's own army and we have civil wars that last decades then we can begin worrying. When the U.S. comes to the point of having citizen-generals like a Marius, Sulla, and Caesar marching on DC and killing U.S. citizens as a means to rule, then we might see a parallel with both the fall of the Roman republic and empire.

None of the other "reasons" which you give for Rome's "fall" are happening in the U.S. at this time... I'm not saying that its not a possibility.

Rome also "fell" because other nations, tribes, peoples, etc... equaled or surpassed it's military power.

Yes, I do but the Roman Empire lasted for over a thousand years and it looks like the US is only going to last about 300 unless we do something drastic with our government, environment and social issues: we cannot go to war with everyone on the globe and remain solvent.

Spooky isn't it. Not to mention the hiring of mercenaries ie; we now give citizenship early if they complete a military tour. The democrats now control both houses so we'll be out of Iraq soon which means the terrorist will be here soon to de-stabilize my country. You watch, terror attacks will happen shortly after a British or American pullout.

All Empires eventually fall..Roman Aztec, etc..unsustainable..

    Totally.

While I am not a Bible-thumper, it's interesting to consider the life and death of Jesus in this context. Our society seems to be becoming much like the one that crucified Jesus and thousands of other people as well.

What you say is true but we still have the one thing that that Rome lost - the willingness and ability to change our form of government by the people.

It is not enough to see the parallel. What can we do about it? If we are not part of the solution then we are part of the problem itself!

The big reason they fell is because they made christianity the official state religion and angered the pagan gods that put them in power.
