What did Muhammed do to make people turn from Christianity and becomes his followers?
Remember the events that took place when Jesus was crucified. The ground broke open and all the dead walked the earth for three days. (What a sight that must have been). Then Jesus ascended into heaven. That is why he is so remembered till this day.
“And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his [Jesus’] resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, ‘Truly this was the Son of God.’”

Because the Muslims tell the Christians that to say that Jesus was the son of God is blasphemy and if they did not turn from their religion they will be killed for blasphemy.

The arrival of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) fulfilled prophecies that some Christians held to be truth. One notable Christian name Waraqah met the Holy Prophet and he said, based on his knowledge of the Bible, that Muhammad is indeed the awaited Prophet as prophesied in the Old and New Testament. The Arabian peninsula was mainly untouched by Christan and Jewish influence (especially Mecca) as it was primarily a pagan culture. The Holy Prophet was the only one in history to unite the Arab people and bring them to the belief in one God. Christians were respected and allowed to continue their practice. Some where so dumbfounded by the excellent character of the Holy Prophet that they realize he was the one Jesus foretold and accepted Islam.

Muhammad was the messenger of God as the Jesus was (may peace be upon them all). Jesus did not say anything by his own and so did Muhammad do (may peace be upon them all).
Muhammad (peace be uponhim) did not say something strange to the chrisitians or to the jews. He said 'read your books and follow those'.
The christians scholars of that time knew what was Muhammad (peace be upon him) asking for. Some of them turned to the islam immediately recognizing that 'this is the the man who was promised to be sent in bible and the Jesus (peace be upon him) directed us to follow to'. Islam was not the new religion at that time. Jesus was muslim too (may peace be upon him) he brought islam to the people of that time.
So that was not something 'turning people to islam' but just a new version of what Jesus (peace be upon him) was given by the Allah the Almighty (God).
Therefore people are supposed to follow islam because islam is the first and only religion on this earth which was not only revealed to Muhammad but to all messengers of God such as Adam, Noah, Jacob, Mosus,Jesus etc etc (may peace be pon them all).

When Muhammad began to preach of his messages from Gabriel he had an extremely strong following in current Arabia. Eventually he "conquered" the polytheistic areas and a rapid expansion took place. As Muhammad and his followers diverged more deeply into "Christian territories" many converted due to majority or the instability of Christianity in this rapid period of change.

The Islamic Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) led a life of simplicity and poverty. His house, built of mud walls and thatched with date-palm leaves, often remained dark for want of oil for the lamp. At times he did not even have the flour with which to prepare bread. Mohammed was illiterate but from an early age he showed a remarkable aptitude for concentration. He was a serious child and never took part in pranks or frolic. When he grew up he earned a great reputation for his honesty and integrity. He always fulfilled his promises. Because he was extremely trustworthy, he became known as Al-Amin.
The Prophet of Islam did not hold any debates nor did he challenge anyone to controversies and discussions. He silently converted people to his faith through his strong personality, charming demeanor and force of divine virtues. He bore with patience the persecution of his tormentors. His characteristics as well as the power of the verses of the Quran captivated the hearts of people.

Pardon, but if the present pope is correct ( in quoting a very old exchange of communications between a Catholic king and a Muslim king) Mohammad used violence of the sword to forcefully convert non-believers.
Having said this, Christendom is equally guilty. The pages of history is also written in blood spilled by those who profess belief in Christ. Remember the inquisition and the Crusade.
But, be assured my friend. The Almighty God, Jehovah, will soon wipe away all these blood guilty religions.

Prophet Muhammed used religion as a pre-text to submit the masses. Look at the hadith Mohammed said, "The person who participates in (Holy battles) in Allah's cause and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Apostle, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty (if he survives) or will be admitted to paradise (if he is killed). " Vol. 1:35
Muhammed (death be with him) got along with Jews and Christians when it served him. When he had enough of an army it was slaughter time. The were given a choice convert to islam or die. Mohammed said, " No Muslim should be killed for killing a Kafir" (infidel). Vol. 9:50 Its not even a sin to kill an non believer. Muslims would tell you there religion is one of peace. But look at any country where Islam is the ruling power and ask your self if you would wanna live there? Even Saudi Arabia(our ally) kills people for being gay. Who is behind violence in darfur? No not all muslims are bad people. I think there just lost.

Never thought about the sword on their necks, Sir?
I think they found it prudent to lose a bit of the foreskin, rather than lose their heads, Sir.
Perhaps the books and accounts that I have read are different to those of the people above who claim that the Christians were "convinced" by the good behavior of the Muslims; because, if I remember right, the same person who said that also mentioned something about the Muslims waging a war to "liberate" Egypt from it's Christians, isn't it? Seems quite iffy, if you don't mind my saying that, ladies and gentlemen.

i don't think there was many converts from Christianity to Islam at the time of the Prophet (pbuh). but the few who did convert converted because they were convinced and saw the good example in the Prophet (pbuh) and his followers.
but more Christians started to convert after the conquests. when the Muslims went to liberate the Egyptian Christians from the occupation of the Roman empire. Christians saw how good Muslims were and accepted the religion. there was tolerance and friendship and they were NOT forced to convert rather convinced.
