Can headphones be used with a computer?

I'll admit it, I am not the most computer savy person. Can I plug a pair of portable headphones into the speaker jack on the back of my PC? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for keeping the sound without disturbing others? Thank you.

    yes... if u hve speqakers thgere should be a green hole... stick teh ehad phones in there

    yes they can be used but you should have a headphone jack on the front of the computer, at least most of them do. If not you can use the one on back i suppose.

    yes. on the front of my modem at the bottom I have a usb && head phone jack. yours may have that on the front too.
