Is it wrong for me to forgive them that just killed my cousin?
I just got a phone call that my cousin was killed in Mosul, Iraq. He was with the US Army and his job was to disarm roadside bombs. This time things didn't go so well.
He has 4 children including a daughter that was just born. He is a Christian and I believe he would forgive them that killed him. I am a Christian and I forgive them too. Is that wrong? (This is no joke)
Thank you all for your heartfelt answers.
I believe with all my heart that to forgive is the right thing. I hope that those that believe Christians to be filled with hate and unforgiving, would understand this also. Thanks again.

I greatly admire a friend of mine who forgives the killer of his son.
Perhaps, I cannot have a generous heart like him, but that is the wonderful lesson that I must try to learn and to apply.
But this is a personal matter. Social justice is another different thing. If all killers will kill freely, then where is the social order and security? This is the job of the institutions.

You are just to forgive them. For if you do not forgive them, God in heaven will not forgive you for what you do. That is the heart of the Lord's Prayer. Forgive us our debts, or trespasses as we forgive our debtors, or those that trespass against us. I had two nieces killed by a man not watching where he was going. He did not even get a traffic ticket. They were the only children my sister-in-law had. They were trying to catch the school bus. He came along and ran them both over and killed them. I hated that man, and wished him dead many times. Even had thoughts of killing him myself. I finally realized that this hatred would damn my soul to hell, and I had to forgive him. So I know how you feel. God bless you, brother. I weep for your loss in my heart. Love in Christ. DL

I am so sorry to hear that. I hold up you and your family that our loving God will comfort you, especially to know that your cousin is with the Lord. How can you ask if it's wrong to forgive? Surely you know that is what Jesus asks of us. It is to your credit that you have already done this. God bless you and keep you on the right path with His word.

My heart to you on this. What your cousin did was very honrable, and he will be remembered by God in high status.
No, it is not wrong for you to forgive the ones who killed him. Jesus forgave those that hung him on the cross (that is all sinners) we should seek after that kind of forgiveness.
God bless your family

If you are a Christian - you know the Bible speaks about forgiveness - if forgiveness is wrong, Jesus will not forgive you of your sins on Judgment. Forgive and He will forgive you - remember what He said while hanging on the cross.....

That is a questions that transcends the boundaries of religion and commitment to family. He is a vital young man that lost his life in trying to free and make life better for others. Would the act of forgiveness make better Christians of those who killed him? The sad answer is no. They are religious fundamentalists who believe it is acceptable to murder anyone in the name of God. That is, in the name of God as they believe it to be. So, by forgiving them, could you be saying or supporting that you condone their belief, therefore is is OK to continue to murder others, Christians, Jews, all religions, just to satisfy and fulfill their singular belief? Do you know it their belief and sworn duty to murder those of all other religions, and those of their own religion who are not the fanatics? There are good Muslims, but they too get murdered by those fanatics of their own religion. I somehow, do not think God would condone anyone who murders in his name.
More importantly, my God take your cousin to his arms and comfort him and your family at this tragic time.

no, as a Christian, that is what God commands us to do and you are setting a wonderful example for others; especially those that do not believe. Your cousin made an unselfish sacrifice and we should all be eternally grateful. God bless you and your family.

No,it is not wrong..To keep unforgiveness in your heart allows the people who comitted the crime the power over you..You dont want them to have power over you so you release the forgiveness so that you can be free from them..

there is no one person to blame .. no one to forgive
dont let this make you hate please
this is awful what has happened but sadly in wars it is the way things go
