A nautical mile, whether on land or at sea, is set equal to a minute of latitude (there are 60 minutes in a degree). It is used at sea because it makes it easier to measure changes in latitude. It is roughly equal to 1.152 miles.

Others have given you the lengths of each, I would add that a nautical mile is one minute of arc along a meridian of the Earth.
A nautical mile is the same at land as on sea, the regular mile is also the same on land as on sea. They don't change between land and sea, they are simply different things.

a mile on land is longer than a nautical on the se. it is all 2 do with the world being round and there can be an even mile both ways.

A US statute mile is exactly 1609.344 meters and exactly 5280 feet.
An international nautical mile is exactly 1852 meters (approximately 6076.115486 feet).
An international nautical mile is exactly 57875/50292 (approximately 1.150779) US statute miles.
