Speaking in tounges why not today?

I speak in tongues constantly.

Don't understand why noone reads the book of acts, or 1st Corinthians 12 and 14.

It depends on what you mean by "speaking in tongues". Biblically, it meant speaking in a language that the speaker did not study so as to communicate the Good News to others. In this case, it could happen, though I have not heard any report to that effect. If you mean the babbling that some TV types do that is supposed to be the "language of the angels", meant to give some new revelation, then the Bible specifically counters this in the doctrine of the Closed Canon. Thus, there is no further Revelation beyond what God has already provided.

I think that people could speak in tongues, but from what w read in the bible, it states that when someone speaks in tongues, there is an order in which it will happen. Someone speaks in a tongue, someone then translates, and one other confirms. It will happen with no less than 2 people. so for all those televangelists and radio pastors speaking in tongues, saying the same thing every time u hear them, it can't be true, there is no one to translate what was said or someone to confirm.

speaking in tongues is an "A B" conversation with God. and Bible states that if there is no translator, it must not be done. It doesn't profit a man to witness it if they are not going to receive the blessing that tongues are supposed to send out.

There is still Speaking in Tounges in churches, the

problem is there are not many interpreters.

Speaking in Tounges is a special gift God gives

us through the holy spirit. Even the ones who speak in Tounges don't understand what they are

saying. The only ones who understand without an

interpreter is The Holy Spirit, God, and the

ministering angels.

People still do it today... however, they are doing what was always done -- faking it. Nobody ever truly spoke in tongues as is intended. There is even an epistle of Paul (i forget which one) that addresses this. It has to do with talents within one of the churches, he said that some people would have the talent to speak in tongues and others would have the talent to decipher the language... what happened is everyone wanted to do the speaking... of course they thought they were letting god speak through them but actually they were fooling themselves while blathering gibberish. Paul had to write back and tell them not all of you can do the speaking.

It's all pageantry, like just about everything in religion.

I Corinthians 13:8-

"Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away."

Ever notice that today when someone claims to speak in tongues, there is never an interpreter?

Paul said in 1 Cor. 14: 19 "yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue."

Notice in verses 27-28, he says there should be an interpreter.

"If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. "

In Paul's day, speaking in other's languages when one had no such training was needed because at that time the New Testament was not complete. Today we have both the OT and the NT, and it is no longer needed, and has ceased, just as Paul said it would.

Are you saying that people don't speak in tongues today?

I can't remember where I heard it, but this happened not that long ago. I know it was a friend of mine (can't remember which one, and it might have even been a friend of a friend) that had this happen:

My friend was in Spain (I think it was Spain anyway), along the Mediterranean (could have been a different body of water), and they heard someone cry for help, from the water, in English. So he went to help them, and managed to save their life. He said that he talked to the person in English, and that the person was speaking to HIM in English.

Someone who was with him told him later that they had NO IDEA he could speak Spanish so well. He was shocked. He HONESTLY thought that he had been speaking in English.

This happens all the time, really.

It is a gift of the Holy Spirit- and many do speak in tongues- but there are also many who do this falsely- and are not being led by the spirit- that is why the Bible says there should be an interpretor.

Not all speak in tongues who are saved- but only those who have this as a gift from God. It is not essential to salvation.

Spaking in tonges is only speaking another language. If a preacher speaks n tounges he must have someone there to tell what is being said. I forget the word oh...translate.....if not how can one understand.

Speaking in tongues is NOT evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit! That was to be a sign to the Jews. Evidence of being filled with the Spirit is found in Galatians chapter 5...ie the fruit of the Spirit...Speaking in tongues is NOT mentioned! You get all you're gonna get of God when you get saved...the key is to letting Him have ALL of you! Blessings!
