Why is size 4 now considered looking good when in the 90s' it was size 10?

If you look up in health books and ask doctors what weight is considered healthy for some one who is 5'4" it will tell you 125lbs.-140lbs.. A 5'4" person who weighs this much wears a size 8-10 not a size 4. When I weighed 140lbs. I had guys always looking and asking me out. Now, They consider women who weigh this fat and out of shape. I personally, say they are out of shape and need to eat. What is going on? Why has it changed that we are to be even skinnier than we were before? Really, all we will be is nothing but bone before long. Think about it!!!

I have a theory that western society is presenting the ideal female as essentially a feminine looking boy with large breasts and fat lips. The top models have figures that look like a skinny 14 year old boy who has had breast and lip implants. It's sexist in a sense -- or maybe I should say bisexist? Younger men seem to be becoming more comfortable with the "effeminate boy" sex object than with real women.

Well actually, what you weigh doesn't really give an indication of what size you would be. Everyone's body is different and where one person can be a 5ft4, 130lb and size 8, someone else could be a size 4. It all depends on frame size, muscle mass and body fat percentage, not to mention body shape.

Also the measuements for a size 10 in the 90's are more like the measurements for a size 6-8 now. I'm a size 6-8 and I'm more than happy with this and do not wish to be a size 4.

I am 36, weigh 140lbs and 5"6', I get told often that I am too thin. (I wear a size 5). Muscel weighs more then fat.

It is the TV, movies and mags that give us the complex that we have to be thin.

Diet is a four letter work and should be taken out of our vocabulary.

I only know my weight because I had my yearly doctors appointment as a rule I DO NOT WEIGH myself, they are only numbers. I go by how my clothes fit and how I feel.

Maybe because of vanity sizing? A size 4 now would be a size 8 or 10 in the 1950's.

Manufacturers slap a smaller size label on clothes to make customers happy. It's a lie, but they're happy. This is especially true with "nicer" clothes. Cheap clothes are cut smaller.

The truth is in the mags and the celebs... the general population will always blindly agree with whatever they see on telly... so if their favourite celbs are all vying for the 'thinnest star of the year' award, then naturally they will think that being thin is attractive.

its all about fashion trends... thats why theres all sorts of laws popping up banning the promotion of sickly thin is beautiful... it just promotes eating disorders...

to be fair, most of the guys i know think that size 4 gurls are the sort you might pin up on ur wall, but you'd never want to really be with... not everyone likes the lollypop head look.

well personally..I am 5'2" I weigh about 98-100 pounds..I am not anorexic..I am naturally small..on my father side is nothing but short and petite people..on my mom side is the heavier people..I agree with you why is it that people want to be bones..i look at nicole richie and I think she looked soooo much better when she had weight io her..I would love to go back looking the way I did after I had my daughter 125 pounds..I loved the way I Iooked then...I dont think that skinny is in at all..only in hollywood..not here in the real world..I think that men like women with bodies...I just think that we have to love our self and be comfortable with who we are...
