Mexicans why will you not address the problems you have in Mexico with your government?
How about rising up and doing something about the corrupt people in power, the corrupt police. Mexican people are smart, they have a good work ethic and Mexico has many natural resources. Mexico could have a thriving economy.
To Bosphorus - so best just to give up? You do not give the people of Mexico much credit.
To JD - huh? Firstly Mexico is no little backwater with no internet or technology and secondly is the internet absolutley necessary to take back the country?

Come on these people are oppressed, downtrodden, and most have a low level of education....they are afraid.....they have corrupt officials that do not mind coming into a town and leveling it down and killing the people within who revolt against them. Look up the state of Oaxaca Mexico to see that this is a recent happening in the news........& tell me that they haven't tried. In fact once before there was a civil uprising in which the USA took sides with the Mexican government and sent troops to reinforce that government against the people.....hence the word "Gringo" The common people did not want our Army there who were dressed in green. The people shouted "Green" "Go (leave)

doubtless the Mexican government is between the main corrupt in the international. Of the previous 5 presidents all of them ripped off the people. They left for Spain or another remote places united states of america after having stashed their stolen fortunes in Swiss or different offshore banks. their own 'Federales' police are those doing all of the mass killings by way of fact they have the criminal weapons and by no ability get caught doing it by way of fact all of the police are in on it. the government officers are protecting the drug cartels by way of fact they get carry of a kickback. the government is against weapons and hands trafficking by way of fact they do no longer prefer to be overpowered jointly as doing their drug commerce. on the floor the government will fake to take an corporation stand, even with the indisputable fact that, judging via the quantity of drugs flowing out of Mexico you are able to truly ask your self who's the wolf in sheep's outfits.

Americans, why will YOU not address the illegal drug trade in YOUR country which is destroying ours?
YOU gringos are the world's LARGEST market for illegal drugs (in fact YOU consume over 80% of ALL illegal drugs produced in the entire WORLD!)
In the US over 40% of the population abuse drugs, legal or illegal, here in Mexico the rate is only 6.5%! This is an AMERICAN problem. Unfortunately to get the drugs into your country and into the hands of your users, addicts and/or consumers, they must pass through Mexico first!
When Mexico tries to stop this drug trade, YOUR drug users send hundreds of millions of US dollars to your friends and allies in the criminal cartels for the express purpose of bribing, terrorizing and assassinating any decent Mexican police, prosecutor, judge, reporter, official or private citizen who attempts to prevent this traffic!
In the past 10 years Mexico has managed to increase by four or five time the finances needed to solve the economic and social problems down here, money earmarked for combating corruption, infrastructure, education, job creation etc. Every penny of those vital resources has instead gone down the rat hole of fighting the war against YOUR illegal drug users. Thousands of decent and honest Mexicans have died at the hands of the criminal agents of YOUR illegal drug users.
YOUR people and YOUR governements have proven too lazy, too corrupt, too weak and too cowardly to deal with this problem, now it is destroying the entire Mexican nation. Just a word of warning to you arrogant drug-loving American fools:
.......if you do not do something about this soon, WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE FLUSHED DOWN THIS RAT HOLE ALONE!

This site contains a lot of information about Mexico.
I find it very helpful.
This was written 10 years ago but nothings changed but the date it seems.
Poverty
More than half of Mexico's population (50 million out of nearly 94 million) suffers from malnutrition, one of the main results of poverty.25 The southern states of Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas are the "poorest of the poor." More than half of the region's rural homes have dirt floors and lack drinking water. Illiteracy rates approach 50 percent, and the children are the country's smallest and most malnourished.26 An anti-poverty plan called "El Progresa," announced by Zedillo in August 1997, is not expected to have a significant impact on poverty, as it targets only 400,000 poor families. 27
I'm not making a case for illegals simply stating facts as to why they come.
AIDS
Mexico ranks third in the Western Hemisphere in the number of reported HIV/AIDS cases,74 and women constitute about 15 percent of them.75 It is estimated that at least 400,000 people in Mexico carry HIV.76 While AIDS cases among Mexican women in the mid-1980s were mainly associated with blood transfusion, 64 percent of new cases are traced to heterosexual transmission.77 In fact, the heterosexually transmitted epidemic has been increasing twice as fast as cases related to blood transfusion in recent years and it is expected to dominate AIDS epidemiology in the future.

Its hard to fight a corrupt government when your family is threatened to be killed. Changing a government is not easy and many times gets lots of people killed. Look into the history of the United States and see how many people were hurt and killed to get rid of the Jim Crow Laws.
It is always easy to talk but harder to take action.

They either have not thought about it or are too lazy to do anything. You CAN change a government. Look at the American Revolution and all Revolutions, including Mexico's. Look at all the overthrown dictators. All it takes is a Movement.

Because they´re always looking to take the easy way out and blame the US for all their problems. Nobody screws Mexico over like Mexico itself. The government keeps any profits from tourism and natural resources and throws its people to the wolves. They call us lazy but they´re the ones who are too lazy to fix their own government and take responsibility for themselves.

I agree - I've been saying this for months. With all of this energy to protest in the US - why not go back to Mexico and protest their far more corrupt government? The sad part is that all we have to do is start punishing employers, it's so easy - they'd all be gone. No jobs for illegals = no illegals.

Great question. I love the people of Mexico. I love visiting Mexico. I always feel terrible that such potential is wasted through corruption.

There is less chance of being killed or imprisoned coming here than there is staying there and protesting or questioning their own government.
