Why does my computer take so long to play video?

I have windows xp, plenty of harddrive space ( if that even matters) and a cable modem with the medium speed they offer. So why when I try to watch music videos does it continuously have to buffer and the videos dont play well at all?

If you are watching streaming video at peak times (especially early evenings) there are so many people online that it can get bogged down, especially the really popular sites. Even with a high-speed connection, you can have trouble. That doesn't mean your connection is bad; it's that there is only so much bandwidth. Try watching videos at other times when there are less people online. You may also want more RAM in your computer - that helps speed for everything you run!

The buffering would be because of your internet connection. If you are watching a large file then it takes a lot longer to download than watch it. Media players estimate when to start the video while it is downloading. If your download speed fluctuates then it will mess up that estimate.

Check the box that your computer came in if you still have it. If it says 512 MB of RAM or less, then go to Best Buy or another computer store and bring your computer and ask for help at the counter on how to get a memory upgrade. If it still doesn't work, then maybe you might consider getting a faster internet connection.

The bottleneck is the site where you're streaming video from. If there are lots of people trying to access the server, it'll slow you down.

    More memory wouldn't hurt either...
