    Hi Gibby,

I think that you can change the settings in preferences, under the Advanced tab. Inside the Import Using drop down menu to MP3 Encoder. There's also the Play songs while importing or converting check box. Be sure to check that.

In my iTunes 7.0.2 there is an "Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3" menu command. Maybe it's the same on yours.

Great question..Yes they can..yipppeee..We now have "audio conversion" programs available that will do that for you and a lot of them are free of charge. Just go to www.google.com and in the search box, type in audio conversion and it will take you to page after page of places that have those programs for you. They also have programs available for copying old VHS tapes to DVD's by searching 'video conversion'..Hope this helps, Larry RadioShack 01-9590
