Help! Do I need to see a doctor?
It hurts very badly when I urinate. I also have the urge to go rather often, and yet, I hardly go at all once I get to the restroom. And (this is the part that has me worried) my urine was slightly pink, as though there was blood in it, when I wiped.
I was really worried, so I asked a friend of mine, who informed me it was a UTI, and that by drinking water and cranberry juice it would clear up on its own.
I personally think anytime one is peeing blood, is a good time to head to the doctor. So, what should I do? Will drinking plenty of water really clear it up, or do I need to see a doctor?
Ok, well, it's definately not an STD, as I'm not sexually active. Thanks though.
Ya, I thought I'd have to go to the doctor, I just kinda didn't want to. Thanks to everyone for your answers, except those of ou who felt the need to be assholes.

You will need to visit with your family doctor. If you have a UTI, you will need to start antibiotics to clear the infection.
Cranberry juice does increase the acidity of the bladder, which helps to decrease bacterial growth, but you need the antibiotic to kill the infection.

Sounds like a bladder infection, or the technical term: Urinary Tract Infection. I've had them a few times.
Go to the doctor, even a walk-in clinic will do, and tell them what you suspect. They will have you give them a urine sample, and it will (or should) be tested while you wait. The test will also be sent to the lab to make sure that you are given the proper antibiotic, or that there isn't something else they're not seeing.
If the test comes back positive, you will be given an antibiotic. Take the ENTIRE prescription or you may get the infection back, and it will be harder to get rid of.
Your friend was right about the water and cranberry juice, but it won't cure it. Only meds will.
Here comes the important stuff to prevent them from comming back:
- After sex, pee. This will clean out the urinary tract of anything that causes infections.
- Always wipe from front to back. And be carefull if you have had a bout of diorhea, wash well.
Unfortunatley, the location of the urinary tract in women, make it easier for us to get infections. So ALWAYS drink water to flush out your bladder. You might even want to try a cranberry extract.
Good Luck!

I am a Registered Nurse. Yes I agree that you have a UTI (urinary tract infection), but I don't agree with the answer you received. If you are haveing blood tinged urine along with the other symptoms it is too late for the fluids. You need antibiotics. See a doctor. To prevent future UTI's, you should drink plenty of fluids, including cranberry juice.

Certainly sounds like a UTI. Lots of water and Cranbery may clear it up, but the presence of blood in the urine may indicate the infection has ascended to the kidney and therefore antibiotics are almost essential. Yes, go to the doctor. Bacteria and blood in the urine can be tested very easily and quickly.

Hmmm... you are in pain and have pink pee... does that sound normal to you? Do you use water and cranberry juice to clear up other medical conditions as well?
If the blood was coming out of your ear and you had a constant headache would you just drink some water and cranberry juice? Or would you be pretty concerned?
PLEASE Go to the doctor NOW before you do some long-term damage. Your body is telling you that it is not well.

Yes you have a urinary track infection. Yes you should see a doctor. You needs anti-biotics. Drink cranberry juice in the mean time to help with some of the symptoms. Since you may have blood in the urine do not delay a doctors appointment. It will get worse.

It would clear up a heck of alot faster if you went to see the doctor. Drinking cranberry juice MAY help, but it's not a sure thing. Plus, yanno, blood is bad. Go to the doctor.

Yes, you need to go to the Dr. It's too bad to just be drinking cranberry juice and lots of water. It's probably just a really bad infection but that can be dangerous if left untreated.

Keep drinking the water/ cranberry just to help soothe your system until you can see a DR. It sounds like a bladder infection, but you should see a DR since you've never had this problem before.

Sounds like you got a bladder infection or it could be a kidney infection. You do need to go to the doctor A.S.A.P. Keep drinking lots of water and try drinking 100% organic granberry juice. I have had these before and they are not fun.
