External DVD-ROM drives.?
On Amazon they sell two types for around $50. Are they going to work? I am going to use this drive primarily for playing Madden 07. Or is it a case of you get what you buy and will I be waisting my money with a cheaper drive?

External drives are more for occaisional use - the USB interface is much slower than what you'd get with an internal drive.
If you want better performance, get an internal drive. They're really quite easy to install, and are cheaper than the external ones since they don't have an enclosure.

The following answer assumes you can load Madden 07 or any other media you are interested in onto your computer by some method other than the external DVD-ROM you are considering:
I actually own 3 external drives and have found that using the current USB 2.0 technology (480 Mbps transfer), speed isn't a problem. I keep one for family photos, one for music (30+ GB and growing), and one for everyday use, directlty connected to my PC. I paid $50 for an 80GB Maxtor, $79 for a 120GB Western Digital, and $150 for a 200GB Maxtor One Touch II. These were all sale prices (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc). So, your $50 deal may not be a bad choice for you. It has worked for me! Hope this Helps!!!
