In what Bible verse(s) does it say the earth is the center of the universe, or that the earth is flat?

Update:

Someone told me that in the time of Galileo there was major fighting because of the biblical view that the earth was the center of the solar system. There are also things like "ends of the earth" and other phrases like that but I don't know where.

The basic Bible quotes are here:

The evidence is that Biblical authors thought the earth was flat with corners. Despite Erotosthenes knowing different centuries earlier:

So, basically God forgot to tell his writers that he made the Earth round, and not flat. Maybe he forgot he did that?

It would not say the earth is flat. Martin S has given an fantastic answer to those who could twist the texts. The Bible DOES say that the earth is a sphere, and this exchange into written long earlier guy had stable survey instruments or went into orbit. enable's look at activity 26:10 in distinctive variations: ESV (English time-honored version): activity 26:10 He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters on the boundary between easy and darkness. GNB (stable information Bible): activity 26:10 He divided easy from darkness by utilising a circle drawn on the face of the sea. LITV (Literal Translation of the Holy Bible): activity 26:10 He has defined a circle on the outdoors of the waters to the boundary of light with darkness. basically for exciting, there exchange into an answerer who referred to that the OT exchange into written in Hebrew, so right this is activity 26:10 in Hebrew: ????? ?????????? ???????? ??? ???????? The Bible for sure states that the earth is a SPHERE, and it is shown with a 5th grader, a flashlight, a softball, and a darkened room. positioned the softball on the floor and spin it. Now shine the flashlight on it. are you able to confirm that the BOUNDARY between easy and darkness on the softball is a CIRCLE? it relatively is not significant the way you spin the softball or the place you carry the flashlight, does it? The earth is two/3 water, so certainly, most of the time, this LINE between easy and darkness is on the WATER, and that's a CIRCLE. except you may exchange yet another geometric shape for the softball and nonetheless make this artwork, you have only shown that the Bible says the earth is a SPHERE. to those who could say that Isaiah 40:22 refers to a frisbee formed earth, your frisbee only have been given eaten by utilising Biblical fact.

None. The idea of the earth being the center of the universe was conjured by Christendom's leaders in the 4th century after Christ's death. Their basis? A misinterpretation of Genesis. They reasoned that since life could only be found on earth, then it must be the center of the universe.

As to the earth being flat, that again was a myth conjured by ancient people because of how they perceived the planet. Actuallly, Isaiah through divine inspiration said that the earth has an arc or a circle. Isaiah 40:22?? I'm not sure now about the verse. But, if you really like to know the exact verse, e-mail me.

It does not say that anywhere in the bible. It was Rome that thought they were the center of the universe, and everyone thought the earth was flat at the time. The Bible, in the Old Testament, says, The earth is a circle, and hangs upon nothing. Who else could have told them that, but God?

The Bible actually says the earth is circular. As to the earth being the center of the universe, there is no such verse. Early Catholic religious leaders during Cupernicus' day assumed it, which as history records was proved wrong.

The Bible is not a scientific book. But where it does speak of science it speaks with accuracy. Such as the Lord hangs the earth on nothing which accurately describes the earth's position in outer space.

The Bible never says the earth is the center. Well no passage I've ever seen. And I've been reading the Bible for well over 30 years.

The prophet Isaiah, who lived about 800 years before Jesus told us the opposite of the earth being flat.

    Isaiah 40:22

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Nowhere. As a matter of fact, the Bible was scientifically correct long before it's time. Isaiah 40:22 says "There is One who is dwelling above the CIRCLE of the earth", when it was another 200 some odd years before Greek philosophers reasoned that the earth was sperical... and to my knowledge there is nothing that talks about the earths position in relation to other planets.

There is no such verse since the bible doesn't say such.

In fact, the Bible says the earth is round.

    Isaiah 40:22

There are no Bible verses that state that. In fact, there are verses that state the opposite.

"It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:" (Isaiah 40:22)

That is just one example, of the earth being a sphere, as opposed to a flat object.
