Racial Sensitivity?
Just read an article on foxnews (here is the link http://www.dailyfreepress.com/user/index.cfm?event... ). I've always grumbled how I thought it was a little one sided that other racial groups were given the chance for more scholarship and grants than caucasians. Now I know I may be hitting a sensitive subject and this may pull some racial slurs from morons with nothing better to do but I'm curious.
Why is it when a scholarship is offered to the caucasian race that it's considered racist or bigotry? Isn't it equal opprotunity?
Can no anyone stick to the subject of the question? MY question. Seems it becomes an open forum for comments left by others.

let's look at the percentages of minorities in higher education. it's gratuitously lower than the national average. (not getting into the racist subculture of politics and economics) this is why many scholarships are directed at minorities and not whites. whites have a hell of a lot easier time getting into college.

it isn't that it's racial bigotry but whites as a percentage have an easier time getting scholarships and for the most part have more money to go to school. Other races don't have that old money so they end up not being able to go to school which is very discouraging. It is also another reason the drop out rate is so high. What is the point in going to highschool when there is no hope of ever going to college simply because of finances. If the economics were such that everyone was on an even keel then there wouldn't be as many scholarships for blacks or anyone else for that matter.
Another reason is most of the scholarships you are finding for blacks, black people will never know about. our economic stats are changing but we still don't have enough past generationer's that have alot of money so a lot of us don't have computers. most of the scholarships you find out about are online so we end up finding out most of our information throught the schools themselves (which a lot of schools don't feel that black people got to school on their own merits unless you go to an all black college)and they won't tell them about the scolarships. If you put out 5 million scholarships then we may find one or 2.
Scholarships are based on need and i'm not saying that some white's couldn't really use some of that money too, but as a whole the need is greater in the minority communities more so than in white communities. I do understand your frustrations though.

Minorities no longer receive preferential treatment in Michigan. Affirmative action was struck down by a vote of the people on November 7, 2006

I don't agree with some of these answers and quite frankly I think some of you just wait for a question like this to start bashing other races.
NO it is not easier on whites to get into collage, Study and hard work , now that works for everyone, no matter the color of there skin.
But we as people should stop treating each other with malice and start treating each other as "humans" and we would all do better.
No I don't agree that we have people in the USA that are not citizens but they are still humans and we should treat them as such.
Deport them, yes, but don't treat them like animals.

Because scholarships are the "easy" way into schools as opposed to just paying for everything yourself. Since it's a stereotype that white people in American have ALL the money on the planet, providing a scholorship to a caucasian makes it look like he's cheating.

Yes you are correct. It doesn't matter what it relates to, there will be no white colleges, no foundations for white ANYTHING, no magazines for whites specifically. It would be precieved as racist. Them's the Grits !!
I know some of you will even think that me saying "Them's the Grits" is racist, and that shows how much you really know.

I have a similar question......Why is there a Black entertainment network(BET)...what would happen if you made a white entertainment network........Once you are a minority you have the right to do anything
