    Sounds like my divorce decree...

It sounds like a summons. If "the matter of ..." has his name as the defendant (the one after the v.) then his wife filed the suit.

If his name is not in the caption, then he is being called as a witness.

If he filed the divorce, then he shouldn't be surprised.

It sounds possibly like divorce papers? The best way to find out is to just ask him. Good luck!
