why won't Wal-Mart allow Salvation Army to set their collection kettles at their entrance?Should we boycott?

I mean are they that greedy that less money will be spent on Christmas time at their multi-billion dollar chains? They used to allow the Salvation Army valunteers to sit there with the kettles but banned it :(, it's good that Target is still "nice" though.

    Oh, boy -- Yahoo! "Answers"...

    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTI...

"Breaking news late Thursday: Wal-Mart announced that it will nationally match dollar for dollar the proceeds of all Salvation Army red kettles beginning Thursday through Christmas Eve.

Wal-Mart has allocated the Salvation Army the greatest number of kettle locations nationally for the last number of years. Target was formerly No. 2 on that list.

This year, Target prefers to be a big zero when it comes to public relations. They evidenced this by their change in policy to no longer allow the Salvation Army to collect at their locations."

"Claim: Target has banned Salvation Army bell ringers from its premises.

    Status: True."

    But:

"In November 2006, the Salvation Army announced Target had launched a multi-faceted Christmas partnership with it that would include an online version of The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program and a donation by the retailer of $1 million to get that up and running. Target also promised to donate 100% of proceeds from the sales of a limited edition Harvey Lewis angel ornament accented with red Swarovski crystals to the Sally Ann."

    Enjoy your free market...

It's not so much that they are greedy as it is that a number of people were setting up with lies that they were from Salvation Army but put the money in their own pockets instead. To be on the safe side, Wal-mart decided it would be better to simply ban all donations of those kind. If one wants to donate to Salvation Army and to know for certain where the money is going, just call them up and send a check directly to them. It's the safest way.

Every Walmart that I've been to has had a Salvation Army kettle out front every year.

I've never once seen any at Target and they publicly announced awhile back in the national media that they don't allow the Salvation Army there. Walmart has never made any such annoucement.

I have not heard that Wal-Mart is not allowing the Salvation Army to "ring bells" at their stores....must be a local thing.

I'm surprised that you said that Target is allowing the Salvation Army on their premises. It was big National news a few years ago that Target was not allowing the Salvation Army to "ring bells" at their stores.

I still boycott Target, partially for this reason, and the fact that they don't support our troops.

Where is this information at?!?!? I'm not saying one store is better than the other cause I really like Target, but my Wal-Mart store has the salvation Army ringing the bell already and last year. I didn't see Target with anyone ringing the bell with a red bucket out last year...

This is nothing new, believe it or not. In Canada The Salvation Army is now prohibited from playing Christmas music on the steps and property of court houses and other public buildings. Why? Because The Salvation Army refuses to guarantee to play only politically correct Christmas music -ie: no Silent Night or Oh Little Town of Bethlehem allowed- and their adamant stand against the ordination of homosexuals, allowing homosexuals as soldiers -full time members- and because they refuse to wed gay and lesbian couples. I know because I'm in The Salvation Army and my parents are retired Salvation Army officers.

    You are completely misinformed.

Type "Salvation Army" and "Walmart" into the yahoo search engine and you will get dozens of pages about Walmart's support of the Salvation Army.

Check your facts before defaming a business and calling for a boycott--it took literally 5 seconds.

I thought it was Target that banned it. The Wal-Mart here has the Salvation Army ringers there already, but none at Target...and none there last year either.

I don't know where you got your info from but I think you may have been misinformed! Some kids I know and I will be in front of our Wal-Mart Sat. ! They even pay some of the people to do it![ Not Wal-Mart the Salvation Army] .

seriously walmart?!?!?! WOW! I remember last year going Christmas shopping and seeing the salvation army in front of wal-mart, but was surprised that they weren't outside Target cause target is a more upscale store compared to walmart...hmm...
