great place to go. bangkok is my favorite big city in the world, not that i would want to spend much time there. if you have any trouble breathing stay out of bangkok. it will be 90 F. and humid in feb. when you need a break hit the water taxi, a ferry line that goes up and down the chao phrai river; cool fresh breezes on the water, and a reasonable way to get from one part of town to another as well as to see the sights.

mentioned above is Khao san Road. khao san means white rice and is another way of saying street of the european youth, it's kinda like being at a grateful dead show. this is where you will find cheap travel opps, crappy restaurants, and over-priced bars full of european youth waiting for travel connections. eating around here is best done from street vendors which take over at 5pm. most rooms around here are booked by noon.

Sukhumvit is known as the world longest street, it starts downtown and goes halfway to cambodia. between soi 15 and 20 (cross streets) you will find large international hotels where you could pay easily over 100 US, or find a small chinese hotel in the neighborhood for 10 US or less. this is a good area to stay, many embassies in the vicinity, many good restaurants.

once again, i love bangkok, but if you have more than 2 days get the heck outa town. your lungs will thank you and your heart will never forget. if you have a few days or more get to the beach.

be advised, bangkok has a highly developed sex trade. thailand also has the highest incidence of aids in asia. this means ALL sex trade workers must be suspected of having hiv!

oh yeah, the elevated train. don't miss your chance to save yourself a two hour cab ride across town, instead, get the train, very modern, clean, and always on time. you would be a fool to rent a car in bangkok.

If you stay in Bangkok, a really good place to go is Hollywood disco at about 11pm. It's a disco Thai style and a lot of fun, just go in a group of at least 2. Also be warned, in Bangkok, don't let a taxi or tuk tuk driver take you to a jewelry shop, seafood restaurant or anywhere other than you want to go. There not to be trusted and full of scams. That's just Bangkok for you

I wouldn't stay in bangkok if i was you though, it's ok but other places are better. You're better off, booking a short flight to Koh Samui, Phuket or Chiang Mai. www.bangkokair.com is a good site to book online for a flight.

I wouldn't bother with 5* hotels, 400 to 500 Baht a night is a good price, and it's half the price if you pay monthly.

Bangkok is alot of cities put together. There is actually no "Bangkok", Thai's call it Krung Theip. It is a big, dirty, city. If you like that kind of thing great. Check out the royal palace, very nice. But if you can, if you want to see real Thai people, get out to a smaller city. Floating market is neat, about 2 hours drive outside of Bangkok. Take the time to see the big Buddhist temples in the downtown area. Or go see the ruins in Ayuthya - the old capital of Thailand.

I was there in 3/2005 and I am going back in Jan 2007 for two weeks. There are lots of places to go. Depends if you want culture, beaches or to Party. All I can say is Thailand is awesome. The food is delicious, hotels are cheap, and nightlife is amazing. Check out this site for general info on LOS (land of smiles).

Depends on how much time you have in hand and what appeals to you. As a tourist, many attractions - elephant trekking, floating market, their temples and wats, historical sites and monuments. Eating and dining is great, from restaurants to the local food stalls. Entertainment is out of this world - spoilt for choice! From sleazy acts (Patpong, Nana, Soi Cowboy etc), pubs/restaurants with entertainment, discos/clubs of high standards or the local version - you have them all. Do not forget shopping! It's a haven here, from the genuine stuff to copies (of everything!), from modern shopping malls to the local night markets. MBK (Mah Boon Krong) has multiple floors of shopping, Patunam is whole market and Chaktuchak (weekends only). Enjoy :-)

Check out http://www.visualthailand.com./ This is a commercial free website with 100's of current photos from Thailand and tons of information on what to see and do. I found this website to be the absolute best if you really want to understand Thailand and what to see and do before you go there. Have nice trip, I love it there.

  • Make sure you visit Koh San Road. It's a great time and you can pick up souvenirs and clothing. Lots of great bars there. Check out this website. www.kohsanroad.com. Get some custom tailored clothes made here. Just bring in a magazine advertisement of what you want and they'll make it up for you in a few days. I've used Canoe Tailors before, they're really good.

    Most important - Have fun!
