Physical requirements to join US Navy?

Are there any requirements to be physically able to perform to join the military? Does the military accept candidates who are out of shape but extremely intelligent? Thanks!

    Dont listen to this guy

As a former US Navy Colonel, I think that I am qualified to answer this question.

You must be able to run five miles every morning in sixty minutes. You must also be able to swim, you must stand at least 5'7 but no taller than 6'9 and weigh no more than 340 pounds.

You can no criminal convictions unless they are misdemeanors or sexual offenses. You may not openly practice any religion that is not Judeo-Christian. This excludes Islam, Hindu, or Catholic.

Also, no one is accepted over the age of 65.

    These are the minimum requirements.

    Good luck and Simper Fi!

There are no colonels in the Navy. And everything in it is wrong.

I am in the Navy and the requirements arent too bad. You should shoot for about a 12 min mile and a half. The Navy doesnt normally do 5 mile runs. Pushups 45-50 is a bare minimum, I still have problems with that even though I do them all the time. About 60 situps is a decent low score. The situps and pushups are 2 mins. Talk to a recruiter for more details.

Every branch of service has physical requirements, I think the Navy is one of the laxest of them all (if that is a word). The best thing to do is talk to a recruiter, you will have to reach a certain fitness level before leaving for boot camp, however the recruiter will be more than happy to help you reach it.

Recent changes to Navy recruitment make it difficult to enlist someone out of shape. You are required to pass the physical fitness test before you can go to RTC. You must pass height/weight before you can DEP. If you can't pass height/weight you may be able to do a bodyfat tape depending on the recruiting district. I didn't always allow this. During your DEP meetings, 1x a month, you will be conduct physical training. Don't forget, physical training in RTC is limited. Most of your time will actually be in school. Again, changes in the way things go.

don't worry they'll get you in shape....as long as you are only out of shape and not overweight...and they want highly intelligent people...the navy is the best, after your service is over you rate higher in getting jobs than other armed services

go talk to a recruiter, see what the requirements are...you don't have to give them any information, otherwise they will be calling you all the time GOOD LUCK

Depends on what you mean by out of shape.

There are height and weight criteria that you must meet.

For example if you are 5'10" (70 inches) your max weight is 196lbs. They do, however, also tape you for body fat if you are over that.

You will also be required to pass the PRT, push-ups, sit-ups and a 1.5 mile run.
