MySpace is a really good place to reconnect with people. You may not find him directly (or you may) but you many fond people who know him.

The bureau of Naval Personnel might be of some help,at least give you his last known address at discharge. Don't know if S.S. will give you any info. It might be enough to do a broad web search.
I watched a CBS newscast where they entered the producers name and city. They had his S.S.# in about 8 seconds and then his home address,wifes name kids,etc. basicaly everythind about him.

search public records during the years he lived there usually you can find parcel infomation for any properties he may have had on record with the county. The info you get may help provide more clues to his current whereabouts

You might try to google him on switchboard.com. You would be surprised how efficient it can be, especially if you have a social security number to work with.
