I don't like the books that well, but I don't think they're evil at all. I can distinguish fact from fiction, and I don't have a problem with the magic/spells/whatever. I think some people have a problem with them because, unlike most fantasy writing, they are set in a real, modern place (at least when they aren't at Hogwarts), and people are afraid that people cannot distinguish fact from fiction. Or they just want something to complain about. ;)

Harry Potter is NOT evil. He is the best. JK Rowlings is Not evil. She is the coolest and most awesome writer ever and created a book that is easy and fun to read. As a huge harry potter fan I think that it is weird that people think that harry potter is evil. It is just a book. I know I wish Hogwarts existed, but it doesn't and nor does magic(sadly). So those weirdos who say that harry potter is evil should read one of the books and tell me harry potter is not evil.

Harry Potter isn't evil at all. The Harry Potter series are very Christian books. They are about good triumphing over evil. The books give kids a positive role model and someone to look up to. What can be evil about that?

Athough there are people that would disagree with me, I think there is something about Harry Potter that just resonates with the Christian life.

    Sacrificial love conquering evil

The Lion vs. the Serpent (chapter title in one of the books)

Overcoming the sinful nature within us to choose good

The Phoenix (just look at how the Phoenix, who can resurrect, pays a role in strengthening Harry in his darkest times; heals his wounds with his tears; brings him the sword to conquer the serpent; sings strength to him as he fights Voldemort; and absorbs the impact of evil in the Ministry of Magic)

The magic in the books is simply NOT the same as the witchcraft warned against in the Bible. No evil spirits are called upon to do the magic! The "Dark Lord" in the books is not glorified, but is very clearly shown as an evil that must, at all costs, be resisted and conquered.

Here's a good website, if you want to find even more parallels between Christian faith and what you find in the books. The author of this essay, John Granger, has also written a number of books about how Christians can relate to the books, which you may be able to find in your local Christian bookstore, as long as the store owner is not biased against the HP books. He also adresses the popularity of the books, and explains what it is about JK Rowling's work that makes her such a good author.

He give a pretty powerful explanation of why Christians should NOT think the books are evil!

Well, Harry Potter is not evil.

Most who protest Harry Potter point to the witchcraft.

    Witchcraft is lame and fake!

Although, Harry Potter does teach some bad conflict resolution, the main theme is being good and fighting evil.

If you think you can do magic than you are dumb.If you protest the books because you fear witchcraft than you are paranoid.

If you decide you don't want your kids to read them, because Potter does resolve conflicts in a disrespectful way at times, than I understand.

If you frame the books under the guise that magic is choices than the books are fine. Sometimes you resolve conflict with good choices and sometimes bad.

If you teach your kids that Harry Potter is an imaginary world and they don't grow up thinking they are wizards and witches than I can't see why you would need to call it evil.

It's not evil, no way. Most people who think it is evil have admitted to not even reading the books! HP has made kids AND adults love reading again. And some like you even are aspiring authors and novelists now! It has only done good, and if brought up in your religion well enough to be able to tell fact from fiction you should love the book. Many Christians don't want their kids exposed to it, but these books shouldn't sway the faith. I am a Catholic born and raised and I love HP. It's not evil, that's ridiculous. Peace.

Are you asking if the character is evil or the books?

I don't think either are evil. Harry is a great character. All of the books are wonderful. They have gotten so many children interested in reading. That is always a good thing!

It is imaginative fiction, not evil.Reading this book brings us to a different world of existance, whereby wands and magic are normal. It is not evil as it does not involve horror or death of good characters.Instead, the good and main characters,Ron,Hermione,Harry Potter, always triumphs and successfully get what they want in the end of each story.
