Store at room temperature in a dark area.

Do Not store potatoes in the refrigerator. Refrigeration converts the starch in potatoes to sugar which will cause the potato to darken when cooked.

Prolonged exposure to light causes greening and makes the potato taste bitter. Peel or pare green area from the potato before using.

Just like the others have said, a cool dry place. I tried storing my potatoes on top of my refrigerator for a while but it was too warm and they ended up with tons of roots. Then, I tried storing them IN the refrigerator, but they just didn't taste the same and they got all rotten and nasty. I have actually heard of people who store their potatoes on the back porch during winter time. They separate the large ones(for baked potatoes) from the small ones(for slicing and chopping) and then they keep them on the porch during the cold weather. I guess it depends on how many potatoes you have and what kind of climate you live in. Good luck!

You must keep potatoes out of the sunlight or they will turn green and produce a chemical called solenium (I think?) This chemical is actually poison and can harm a fetus of pregnant woman. Don't eat the green potatoes. This is okay in small amounts but I would avoid it if possible. So just keep your spuds in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight.

Cool dark place. Not the bottom of a kitchen cabinet -- potatoes get a horrible smell when they go bad and you don't want to ruin a cabinet. Keep them in a plastic bin for the same reason. Keep them away from the onions -- the moisture in the onions makes them go bad faster.

I know lots of people here are telling you not to put them in the fridge, but I do, and I don't have a problem with the potatoes getting starchy or anything. Do what you want; just an FYI.

I used to buy 50 pound bags of potatoes and onions and kept them in my dark and cool garage and they lasted for many months.

A cool dry place like in a bowl in the pantry if you have on or an extra draw (extra drawer?). Next house I build I'm going to have to install that drawer. LOL

I store mine in my office, which is very cool and dark most of the day. They last a long time that way.

Dark and dry place and away from the sun light. If the sun hits it then it will start to sprout buds.
