I'd help you with that, but I don't know what county you're in; plus you'd be more informed if you did it, anyway.

It's not hard to file yourself, just time consuming and aggravating. And a whole lot less expensive!

To save yourself a lot of hassle, use a paralegal. Wait until after you get your tax return back to file.

This site tells about Kern County, but it also gives links to other counties. I also found several sites that will prepare the forms for you for a fee. Just google California divorce.

Be aware there are a lot of issues in your case because of the children. You would probably be better served to get a lawyer, even though it will be a financial strain for you. Again, get your tax refund and use the funds from that to help pay the legal fees. It isn't that far away.

They usually have them online there under Family Forms.

There you will also find children income forms you will need to fill out.

It only cost me $300 to register my papers with the court to file for divorce , took the parents required state class, met with the judge at a private hearing, my ex signed and I signed and it was a done deal after we determined child support.

Each state has different requirements. I live in FL so have no idea what the county you live in requires.

I suggest that you go to your local county clerk's office. You should be able to get all the papers and forms to file for divorce there. I also advise you to try the phone book for some agency that helps women. You can probably get good answers. I doubt your hubby will be able to get a dime from you, and will almost certainly be required to pay child support.

I would say that since you have children involved and you need help right away, go to a free consultation with a divorce/family lawyer in your area--a lot of the lawyers in my area (I live in Ohio) give free consultations and explain stuff, and this is before you hire them. You always want to know all your options and understand everything and always ask a lot of questions because it is wise to know what you are getting into!
